Divine Comfort
Romans 8:28
vs. 18-25: The hope of glory puts an immense treasure in the heart of the Believer against which suffering makes constant withdrawals.
vs. 26-27: The Spirit groans in the hearts of God’s children to pray for what we can’t but exactly what we need.
vs. 28: The Comfort of God’s Providence is for those that Delight in His Purposes.
The Recipients:
Who it isn't and Who it is

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Those that Love God
Exodus 20:6

“but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
From the Old Testament we learn that those that love God is synonymous with those that obey God.
Romans 8:13-17

“13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”
Sanctification is love driven
John 14:31

“but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.”
Loving the Father points us back to Christ and the Cross.
The Called According to His Purpose
Ephesians 1:4-5

“4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.”
The Comfort of God’s Providence is for those that Delight in His Purposes.
God's Work:
What it isn't and What it is

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Working All Things
For Good
It is a weaving together of things not an emphasis on the thing itself.
"You meant it for evil but God meant it for good."
Romans 8:18
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Romans 8:35
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?”
All Things? Sufferings and Sorrows
1 Corinthians 3:21-22a

“21 So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas.”
All Things? People
All Things? Life and Death
1 Corinthians 3:21-23

“21 So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23 and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”
Suffering
Weakness
People
Romans 5:3-4

“3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope”
2 Corinthians 4:8-10

“8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.”
Ephesians 4:15

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ”
The Comfort of God’s Providence is for those that Delight in His Purposes.
The Comfort of God:
Why it works

See your lack of Christlikeness as the greatest threat to your home, work, church, and community.
For areas where you can look back and see His providential weaving to make you more like Jesus, rehearse what Jesus did and rejoice in that work.
Pray for increasing delight in God's work.
