RS has a population of 10.7 million people, and Porto Alegre, which is the capital of the State, has the population around 10 times smaller (1.409 million).

The area of RS is 281,748 km².
Area
Rio Grande do Sul is located in the south of Brasil, and is bordered to the state of Santa Catarina and the coutries Uruguay and Argentina.

In this presentation we will talk about Rio Grande do Sul. We are going to explain its culture, weather/climate, physical characteristics, where it's located on Brasil, photos, and more.

Chimarrão
"Chimarrão" is a traditional drink from Rio Grande do Sul. It is a kind of a hot tea and the herbs used in this infusion are an indian culture heritage.
Traditional Clothing
Clothing
Gauchos and Prendas (people that were born in RS) wear traditional clothing. Some of them are : breeches, boots, hat, barbicacho, scarf, shirt, vest, whip, money belt, gunner and spur for men and long colorful dresses for women.

Due to the Portuguese colonization and the influence of the German and Italian immigration, there are many people that follow the Christian religion in RS. Some examples are catholic and evangelic.
Jewish religion has a special holiday celebrated only by them called Hanukah.
Special Holidays

Gauchos celebrate Farroupilha Week, a commemoration of the Farroupilha Revolution of 1835-1845, and it is the most important holiday in RS. Gauchos and prendas get together in a camp where they dance (chula), have rodeo-style competitions and cook special dishes. There are also traditional theme parades with horses in Porto Alegre.
