Biological Facts
Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Honolulu Hawaii. When Obama was two his parents got divorced (1964). One year later (1965) his mother remarried and his dad moved to Kenya. Obama, his mom, and his step dad all moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, where Obama's half-sister, Maya, was born. When Obama was 10 he went back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents. His mother and sister later joined them there.
Obstacles
Obama faced a few obstacles during his life. The first obstacle he faced was the fact that he was black. He was teased for his unusual name and the color of his skin. He was also made fun of by other black students for having a white family. Obama also struggled with the absence of his father. After the divorce his father moved to Kenya and he very rarely visited. Growing up without his father was very hard for Obama but he didn't let him get in the way of working hard and achieving his goals.
Major Achievements
Obama's greatest achievement was becoming the first African American to be elected president of the United States. His second greatest achievement was getting re-elected president of the United States in 2012. Another achievement was while he was in Harvard Law School he became the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. Two more achievements are that Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996 and in 2005 Obama took his seat in the U.S. Senate.
What Makes Obama a Hero?

Obama is intelligent because he knows how to make the right decisions. When there is a problem he finds a solution with the best possible outcome. Lastly, he is determined because he knew he would make a great president so he worked hard and didn't let anyone or anything get in his way until his dream became reality. He believed in himself and that he could make a difference and that is what makes Barack Obama an American Hero.
