Transcript of Democracy vs Dictatorship

Types & Origin of Power
4 types of dictatorships have been described:

• Family/Royal dictatorship
• Military dictatorship
• Constitutional dictatorship
• Communist Dictatorship

Origin of Democracy
History Of Democracy traces back from classical Athens in the 6th century B.C.E. to the present day.

In a DEMOCRACY…

There is Voting;
Voice your opinion;
You are asked, NOT told;
Your voice will be heard;
You have part ownership; and
You have input on decisions.

Dictatorship & Pakistan
Pakistan has seen 3 military dictatorships & 4 democratic governments.
Still the debate of which is best for Pakistan Democracy or Dictatorship is still on fire .
From the year 1977 to 2007 using six important economic indicators which are GDP, Inflation, GDP growth rate ,literacy, Poverty and employment.
we will be able to develop a pretty clear idea that what actually is better for Pakistan democracy or dictatorship from an economist’s perspective.
Jinnah’s View on Democracy:

“Pakistan is made for the betterment of the people living in it. People will themselves select their Leader and it’s the responsibility of the Leader to fulfill the needs of the people and work day and night for this Motherland.”

“You have to stand guard over the development and maintenance of Islamic democracy, Islamic social justice and the equality of manhood in your own native soil.”

Direct Democracy
Example: Switzerland
Presidential Democracy
Examples: USA, France
Parliamentary Democracy
Examples: UK, Germany, Spain, Italy

Dictatorship vs Democracy
Head of State/Government since 1947:
Why is democracy a failure in Pakistan?

Institutional Instability
Intervention by non-political and military factors
Political Leadership and Parties
Social Structure:
Manipulation of electoral process
Actions of democratic leaders
Military Rule
(Zia’s government)
The Democratic Solution
Abolishing feudalism
Incorporation of democratic norms in the educational system
Political parties need to their membership criteria
Electoral process should be fair and transparent
Citizens should take greater responsibility, as Winston Churchill said:
“Citizens are the most important component of Democracy. They need to strengthen themselves up if they want democracy to be strong. They should choose better people among themselves, who will then run the country for them.”
Judiciary should be made independent, so violation to constitution should be dealt with seriously and fairly

Musharraf`s rule
Nine world class engineering universities were developed and 18 public universities further developed.
Pakistan was ranked third in world banking profitability.

The IT industry was valued at around $2 billion, including $1 billion in exports and employed around 90,000 professionals.
The CNG sector attracted over $70 billion in investment in the past five years and created 45,000 jobs.

The telecommunications sector attracted around $10 billion in investments and created over 1.3 million jobs.

So which of these do you prefer at home(country) ?
Would you rather your child did
EVERYTHING
you said without questions or objections?

Or would you prefer that your child made some of their own decisions and learned from their own mistakes?
A dictatorship is basically a playground bully, that scares everyone else at the playground into obeying everything he/she says and demands. One man rules the whole playground
DEMOCRACY
DICTATORSHIP
Like some Peacefull People say :P
There is No voting;
The Ruler decides;
Your opinion does not count;
and
You are told,

NEVER
asked.

Origin of Dictatorship
Comes from the
Latin
title
Dictator
, which in the Roman Republic designated a temporary magistrate appointed by the Senate to rule the republic in times of emergency
Democratic Rule
The Zardari government is partially responsible for people losing faith in democracy in Pakistan. Their mismanagement and poor governance has made the lives of ordinary Pakistanis difficult who now live in a country where water and power supplies are intermittent at best, law and order do not exist, and unemployment amongst the youth has reached unprecedented highs.

Would you prefer your children to fear you or respect you?
Fear OR Respect
