Goin' Fishin'
Lionel's family was killed in a boating accident by Neal Anderson. Lion's friends comforted him for years and Neal's mom wants Lion to forgive Neal but he says no. Then Lion puts his hatred of Neal over his friendship with his friends. But in the end, as the story is titled, he takes Neal fishing.
Statement of Theme
If someone hurts you in anyway, it could be a misunderstanding, and you should try to work things out before it resorts to violence.
"If I let you come in my house, I'll probably hurt you. In fact, I might anyway. You must be out of your goddamn mind. What the hell are you doing here?" (pg 98)
Lion is trying to warn Neal to lave before he gets hurt, and he would also like to know why in his mind that he showed up to his house.
Closing & Significants
The author uses the literary element "Mood" to relate the message of "If someone hurts you, try working things out before it resorts to violence. It could be a misunderstanding.", because they may not have meant to cause your pain to resort into violence, so don't do it back towards them.

There are families out there that go through this, and the author may have had this happen to him, and he is trying to show others to resort to violence, when someone causes you pain.
