The Great Wall of China is often regarded as one of the man-made wonders of the world.
It was built in the Qin and Han dynasties in Ancient China during a 2,000 year period.
Various sections of it have been measured to be 5,488 miles.
It was built to protect China's northern border from the Xiongnu Mongols
As many as one million lives were lost while building it.
History of the Great Wall
Was it worth it?

The Great Wall, was it worth it?
We think that the Great Wall wasn't worth it because:
1. Millions of soldier and worker lives were lost.
2. The Mongols still eventually found their way around the wall and fought with China.
The main reason they built the Great Wall of China was to keep the northern invaders (the Mongols) out, and it did not do that.
In conclusion, we think that building the Great Wall of China was not worth building and was a waste of time and money.
People on the Silk Road couldn't pass part of the road because it was out of the wall's protection.
The names of the trading posts along the wall translated to: 'Enter and you won't come back.'
The Mongols still were able to find their way around the wall eventually.
It was a waste of time and money.

Some pros of building the wall were:
Kept nomads out for a while.
Protected the people of China.
The Mongols could have killed lots of people if the wall did not block them out.
The material used to build parts of the wall was easily available.
Made a historical landmark.
Attracted visitors.
People felt safer
