Transcript of Buddhism - A Force for Good? Tzu Chi

Francesca Pesci Buddhism
a Force for Good?
Tzu Chi Buddhists believe that the “essence of true charity” is an act to reduce personal greed. They believe that you preform real charity if you can give freely without expecting anything in return. This means that charity is giving from the heart, mind and soul. Charity is a really important part in Buddhism. Religious Teachings:
What does Buddhism say about charity? The Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen on the poor east coast of Taiwan. For over 43 years, Tzu Chi has been contributing to help better social and community services, Medical care, Education and humanism in Taiwan and around the world. Starting with the support of the first members, 30 housewives who saved two cents from their grocery money everyday to help the poor, Tzu Chi now has volunteers in over 47 countries and provieds aid to over 69 nations. The Tzu Chi Foundation Their Mission Tzu Chi has many missions, the foundation's missions started with charity but over time, extended into medicine, education and culture. The shared goal of all the volunteers around the world is to "cultivate sincerity, integrity, faith, and honesty within, while exercising kindness, compassion, joy, and selflessness to humanity through concrete actions." Does Tzu Chi Show that it is a Force for Good in the World? Actions The Tzu Chi Foundation have built lots of schools form kindergarten, primary school, middle school and high school to college.

They have founded clinics to help the poor.

They have founded international relief services to help those affected by natural disasters. I Think The Tzu Chi Foundation shows that it is a Force for Good in the world. This is because they are devoting their time, money and life to helping other people, and are effecting their lives for the better.

They are following the Buddhist teachings because the “essence of true charity” is an act to reduce personal greed. They believe that you preform real charity if you can give freely without expecting anything in return. They are bringing benefit to the society and taking action to help the less fortunate people without expecting anything in return.
