There is still evidence of the original function of London.
CULTURE & SERVICES
POPULATION & MIGRATION
The number of tourists visiting London increased by 20% last summer and is now the world’s most popular destination, but why? Tourists love to go to London because of many reasons but one of the biggest is because of all the attractions, such as Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and the London eye. Another reason why people like to visit London is because of its history.
A lot of people say that London is a really bad place but some also love it. People say that London is expensive, especially for housing and the weather isn’t very good but it really depends on how you like to live. So many people find it an exciting place with lots of things to do and see, there are lots of opportunities.
One of the main attractions in London is Buckingham Palace which is home to British Monarchy. This massive structure is open to the public for tours every year.
Another big attraction is 'Big Ben' which is located at the north end of Buckingham Palace and is 97 meters tall and is 151 years old.
The London Eye is another attraction that is located on the south bank of the River Thames in London.
Within this amazing city there is so much history and so many stories to tell, I'm not sure if any of you would live there but Jen, Hannah and I definitely would but Laura thinks that the weather would get too cold.
Depending on where you live in London will determined what houses are available to buy or rent, like in Paddington (near Central London) you would only find flats, apartments and maybe one or two houses. In Croydon (South London) you would find a couple more houses but for a lot more money and I mean a lot!
In my opinion I don't think they will have a land shortage because away from central London they have a couple of houses that have big blocks of land that they can easily build on.
London is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. From its origins around AD50, the city has attracted people from all over the world. Today, there are over 300 languages spoken in London’s schools. Some of the most popular places that these people come from are France, Italy, Ireland, North East, Wales and many more.
It is estimated that just over half the population in Britain are illegal immigrants, around 70%.
There is a lot of ethnic tensions in London that have involved people dieing in gruesome ways but on a brighter side the government is dealing with these issues so in the future it will be a safer place for immigrants.
London transports its growing population with different types of transport like:
• Public buses
• Tube (underground train)
• River buses
• London trams
• Bicycle hire
• And a airline cable car in Greenwich and East London
The public transport is pretty good in London, there's lots of different modes of transport to take and they come frequently.
London has many roads but mostly freeways and highways and main roads in and out of the city. They have lots of new main roads getting constructed.
Water from the tap in London is fine to drink but many prefer to drink bottled water.
There are four companies that currently supply the water to London. These are Thames Water, Affinity Water, Essex and Suffolk Water and Sutton and East Surrey Water.
The thames water ring connects all the waterworks, and pumping stations.
A desalination station has been built in Beckton, for Thames Water .This opened on 2 June 2010. It is the first plant of this type to be built in the UK.
this plant provides for many people.
People that are wealthier would live in areas like Mayfair, Chelsea and Kensington. London mostly consists of apartments and not many houses. The houses in these areas are very upheld and most of them don’t look very rundown.
The poorer areas of London are Newham and the outer east end of London. The buildings around there look run down and have lots of vandalism on them.
