Transcript of The Solar System

The Sun
The sun is the star at center of our solar system. It is almost perfectly round. The sun has 1, 392, 684 km in diameter. It's mass is 1.989e+30.The suns mass counts as 99.86% of the total mass of the solar system.About three quarters of the sun's mass is hydrogen. Most of the rest of the mass is helium.Scientists say that the sun formed 4.6 billion years ago.It formed from a gravitational collapse of a region within a molecular cloud. You could fit 1.3 million earths on the sun.In a billion years the sun will become so hot that all water on Earth won't exist any more.they atmosphere of the sun is more hot than the surface of the sun.
Mercury
Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system. It is 1,516 miles in radius. It is the closest planet to the sun.Mercury is named after the roman messenger of the gods.Half of Mercury has never been seen by man, until 2008 man saw the other half of Mercury. There are regions on Mercury which are never heated by the sun. There are recorded observations made by the ancient Greeks and Romans.Mecury is 35,980,000 miles away from the sun usually.Mercury isn't always the same distinct to the sun.the closest it gets to the sun is 29,000,000 miles.Mercury's temperature can go down to -220 degrees Celsius, and go up to 420 degrees Celsius.Mercury's gravity is 38% of Earth's.One day on Mercury is 58 days 15 and 30 minutes.Mercury has no moons. It takes 88 Earth days for Mercury to orbit the sun.
Venus
Venus is named after the Roman goddess of love. It's atmosphere is mostly made of carbon dioxide. It is 108 200 000 km from the sun Venus is hottest planet in our solar system. It is the second planet to the sun. Where ever or when ever on Venus the temperature is 462 degrees Celsius.Venus's atmosphere's mass is 4.867E24 kg.It is 12,104 in diameter.A day on Venus is 243 days on earth.Venus is slightly smaller than earth. All planets in our solar system rotate counter clock wise but Venus rotates clock wise. Venus doesn't have a moon.Venus is the brightest object in our sky besides the sun and moon.It is also the brightest planet viewed from Earth. The clouds on Venus are made of sulfuric acid.Scientists believe that water was on Venus but dried up over 300 million years, when the sun started admitting more solar energy.Venus's gravity is slightly over 90% of Earth's.One Venus day is 116 days and 18 hours. It takes Venus 224.7 Earth days for Venus to orbit the sun.Venus has no moons.
Earth
Earth was the only planet in our solar system that wasn't named after a Roman god.It s the third planet in our solar system. It is also the fifth largest planet in our solar system.70% of earth is water and 30% of land. The earth's mass is 5.972E24 kg.It is 12,742 km in diameter. There are seven layers of the Earth. The first layer is called the Crust, the second layer is called the Upper Mantle, the third layer is called the Transition Region, the fourth layer is called Lower Mantle, the fifth layer is called the D'' Layer, the sixth layer is called the Outer Core, the seventh layer is called the Inner Core.Earth has the most life in the solar system.Earth formed 4.54 billion years ago, and in it's first billion year life sprouted. The sun is 149,600,000 km away from Earth. Our planet has only 1 moon.It takes 365 ways for Earth to orbit the sun.

Mars
Mars was named after the Roman god of war.Mars's mass is 639E29 kg.It's 6,779 km in diameter. It's the fourth planet to the sun.Mars has water under the surface of it's planet in the form of ice.Mars has the solar systems biggest mountain. It's called Mons.It also has the biggest canyon in the solar system called the Valles Marineris it is 4,000 km, and 7 km deep in some places..If you took the Valles Marineris to Earth it would go stretch across America.Mars has two moons the size of asteroids one called Phobos, the other is called Deimos.Phoos orbits Mars at such a low altitude that it will eventually be torn apart by Mars's gravity. The atmosphere of Mars is made of 95% carbon dioxide,3% of nitrogen,1.6% argon, and trace amounts of water, and oxygen. One day on Mars is 24 hours and 40 minutes. The sun is 227,900,000 km from Mars.On a summer day Mars is about 20 degrees Celsius. On a winter day Mars is -125 degrees Celsius.A year on Mars is 686.98 Earth days.
Jupiter
Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system.Jupiter was named after the Roman king of the gods.It has a width of 82,000 miles.Jupiter has a mass of 1.898E27 kg.It is mostly made of helium, and hydrogen. If you tried to land on Jupiter you would never touch the ground. If Jupiter got any bigger it would become smaller. Jupiter has a hurricane like storm that has been raging for 300 years.Jupiter is so big that you could fit all the planets in our solar system and still have room to spare. The planet has 63 moons.Jupiter is the mast fastest spinning planet in our solar system. One day on Jupiter is 9 hours and 56 minutes. The sun is 778,500,000 away from the sun.Jupiter has an average of -145 degrees Celsius.A year on Jupiter is 11.86 Earth years.
Saturn
Saturn is mostly made of hydrogen helium and ice.Saturn was named after the Roman king of Titans. The sun is 1,443,000,000 away from the sun.Saturn is 568.3E24 kg.Saturn is 139,822 km in diameter. This planet has 62 moons.A day on Saturn is 10 hours 32 minutes and 35 seconds.Every 15 years Saturn's rings look like the have disappeared. There could be live on one of Saturn's moons. The average temperature of Saturn is -178 degrees Celsius.Saturns heat comes from mostly it's interior not the sun. This planet can float on water.Saturn has 63 moons. It takes 10,759 days for Saturn to obit the sun.

Uranus
Uranus was named after the Roman god of the sky.The planet has a mass of 86.81E24 kg.Uranis is 31,518 in diameter.Uranus is mostly made of ice.the planet has 3 layers a rocky center,an icy layer covering that and,an outer gas made of helium, and hydrogen.Uranis is also made of methane.Uranis is 1,787,000,000 miles from the sun. This planet rotates on it's side.A day on Uranus is 17 hours and 14 minutes.Uranus is the second lightest planet in our solar system.Uranus has rings. They are very dark so you can't see them.Uranus is the coldest planet in our solar system. The planet has 27 moons.Uranus takes 84.3 Earth years to orbit the sun.
Neptune
8
Neptune was named the Roman
god of the sea. It's mass is 102.4E24 kg.Neptune is 49,244
in diameter. It has 14 moons orbiting the planet.Neptune is
4,498,396,441 km from the sun.
One day on Neptune is 16 hours and 6 minutes. The atmosphere of helium, hydrogen, methane and ammonia. It's the methane at the top of Neptune makes the planet blue.It takes Neptune 164.79 Earth years to orbit the sun.It rains diamonds on Neptune.

Ceres
Ceres was named after the Roman god of Agriculture. It is 487 km in diameter. The planet has a mass of 895.8E18 kg.Ceres is 413937308 km from the sun.Ceres is the smallest dwarf planet, it is also the closest dwarf planet to the sun.In 2015 a spacecraft (that looks like a satellite) called the Dawn will be in view of Ceres.A day on Ceres is 9 hours.Ceres takes 4.6 Earth years to orbit the sun.
Pluto
Pluto is named after the Roman god of the underworld. It has an atmosphere of nitrogen, methane and carbon dioxide.Pluto has 3 moons.Ocasionally Pluto can be closer than Neptune. If Pluto was close enough to the sun it would become a comet.NASA sent a spacecraft to Pluto in 2005 and it will reach the planet in 2015.The mass of Pluto is 1.31 x 1022 kilograms. The diameter of Pluto is 2360 kilometers. One day on Pluto is 6 days and 9 hours. It takes Pluto 248 years to complete an orbit around the sun.
The moon
The mass of the moon is 7.35e22kg.diameter of 3475 km is the moons diameter. The moon is slowly drifting away, every year the moon drifts away 4 centimeters so in 100 years the moon will be 400 centimeters away from our planet. If you look at the moon and sun without using a telescope the sun looks almost exactly the same size of the moon. That wasn't always how it was the moon use to look bigger than the sun, but the moon is still getting farther away from Earth. The official name for the moon is the moon, you actually have to say the the for it took be the name of the moon. The moon is the 5th largest natural moon in our solar system.NASA is going back to the moon.In 2019 astronauts will be on the moon, and the will set up a permanent research station. It takes the moon 27 days to orbit the Earth.

The technology used to explore
the solar system are...satellites,
spacecrafts,
telescopes and the occasional trip to the moon.
Eris
Eris is named after the Greek god of chaos, Strife, and discord. Eris is 14 billion kilometers from the sun.It is the biggest dwarf planet known to man.The mass of Eris is
16,700,000,000,000 kg.Eris has a diameter of 2,326 km.Eris has one moon called Dysnomia.A day on Eris is 26 hours. It takes 550 years for Eris to orbit the sun.Eris has an atmosphere of methane and nitrogen, but the atmosphere is frozen solid. It has a surface temperature of -231 degrees Celsius
Fun Facts
There are 300 billion stars in our galaxy.
There's a black hole at the center of our solar system that is 3 million times heavier than the sun. There are 173 orbiting the 8 main planets in our solar system. The largest star known to man is 2.800.000.000 km in diameter.Jupiter, Uranus and all have rings to thin to see from Earth. The name of the biggest star known to man is called VY CANIS MAJORIS.Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system. If you went into space and looked at the sun you would see it white.
