Transcript of Hotel Booking System

Hotel Booking System
The proposed system will automate many of the manual procedures.

This hotel reservation system is a transaction processing system.

Hotels have been around for a very long time, using various methods of keeping records. Historically, hotels have kept paper records in filing cabinets. However, hotels are much larger now with many customers to keep track of with regard to types of accommodations, whether low budget, luxury etc, as well as preferences like smoking or non-smoking etc.

Keeping track of such large customer bases and all their attendant details would require too much space for file cabinets. Employees would have to spend valuable time and effort going back and forth to file cabinets looking up each client’s information.

“Dhonveli Hotel” has introduced a highly complex yet much comprehensive hotel transaction management system.

ER Diagram
The entity relationship diagram depicts relationship between data objects.

The attribute of each data objects noted in the entity relationship diagram can be described using a data object description.

The data flow diagram serves two purposes which is to provide an indication of how data are transformed as they move through the system, and to depict the functions that transformation the data flow.

The E-R diagram consists of data objects, attributes and relationships

Data Flow Diagram
Introduction
Data Flow Modeling is a widely used and mature analysis technique, and is recommended by most structured methods.

Data Flow Models (DFM’s) are easy to understand and, with a little practice, reasonably quick and straightforward to develop.

They consist of two parts: a set of Data Flow Diagrams (DFD’s) and a set of associated textual descriptions that provide us with the truly effective tool for understanding the information processes of a system.

The DFD for our project is as follows;
System Study
Hardware and software requirement
Software needed to run the project
This presentation will highlight the important aspects of the project and the project documentation.
online booking system
This is a project, based on a website which represents a hotel and all its significant services and facilities which it has to offer
Created as replacement for the previous system.
This system involves online booking which does not involve manual works.
Existing System
The existing system is manual
Day to Day current system is very costly
The information stored by the manual system is not durable
The existing system was designed for the previous hotel requirements for a very limited numbers of rooms and customers without keeping in mind, the potential growth of the hotel and its customer base.
Wastes a lot of time and resources
The current state of the hotel and its development is out of scope of the manual system.

The main aim of this website is replace the previous version of the existing system with a newer and better system which can be used online as a booking medium.

The website also functions as a means of marketing and attracting different potential customers. Moreover, it is created by using a server-side web application framework named as ASP.NET using the software Microsoft Visual Studio.

This project provides solutions regarding the hotel reservation problems of users. Users can easily go through different options ranging from low budget to luxury rooms.

By the use of Internet, the user can save valuable time for his/her reservation.
The existing system is not efficient or effective.

Manual systems decrease the amount of goodwill for the hotel which impacts the reputation of the hotel.

(Update, Search, Delete, Edit), these types’ of methods are not accessible and not carry with the manual method.

It takes an even greater time to secure the information and safeguard it from extraneous threats like theft, fire, insects etc

Unable to analyze past data.

If customer wants to search their details it very difficult.

It takes more time to reserve the room. So performance of the current system is slow.

The Information stored by the current/existing is not durable.

If customer wants to search their details it very difficult.

Processing delay.

Difficulties of the existing system
Proposed System
Goals and objectives of the proposed system
Goal:
The main goal is to develop a hotel reservation system to replace the paper based manual hotel reservation system.

Objectives:
To ease staff and admin work with facilities for reservation process.
To enable sharing of ideas, provide timely and useful information and enhance performance.
To ease decision making, save time and resources and utilize opportunities of new technology.

Significance of the proposed system
Today, most of the hotels provide services using computer system. It aids in performing tasks in an easy way and is less time consuming.

Hotels are individually assessed in traditional systems and these rely heavily on the facilities provided.

Based on research, some of the hotels don’t have an existing Website, which may help the business to be commercialized to the public.

The significance of the proposed system is that The computerized Hotel booking system aims to simplify the manual hotel reservation in order to make a faster and accurate database for the hotel
Microsoft Visual studio 2010
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 is an integrated development environment (IDE) from Microsoft.
Visual Studio provides a suite of component-based development tools and other technologies that you can use to build powerful, high-performance applications.
Visual Basic is a so-called object-oriented,event-driven visual programming language.

Programs are created with the use of a software tool called an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

The latest versions of Visual Basic are fully object oriented and respond to user-initiated events such as mouse clicks, keystrokes and timers.

In Visual Studio, it is convenient to make programs by dragging and dropping predefined objects like buttons and text boxes.

Microsoft Office Access 2010
A database is a computer program for storing information in an easily retrievable form. It is used mainly to store text and numbers

Microsoft Access is a database application, it is moreover known as a relational database application.

Users can selectively combine pieces information from any or all of those tables through a process known as querying.

An access database is made up of different objects, such as tables, forms and queries.
Adobe Flash CS5 Professional
Adobe Photoshop CS5
Adobe Flash Professional CS5 allows designers and developers to integrate video, text, audio, and graphics that deliver superior results for interactive presentations, e-learning, PD As, mobile phones, and application user interfaces.

Adobe Flash CS5 Professional is the standard authoring tool for producing high-impact web experiences.
Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing platform developed and distributed by Adobe Systems.

Adobe Photoshop is the most commonly used application by working professionals in any creative field.
HARDWARE REQUIREMENT

1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
1 GB RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB or more RAM for 64-bit.
16 GB available hard disk space for 32-bit or 20 GB for 64-bit.
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

Other basic requirements include:

An LCD 21’’ inch or 14’’ monitor (based on user’s requirement).
A CPU system that can hold the basic peripherals.
Mouse.
Keyboard.
A bar code reader (if necessary).

The basic software’s required to use the Booking System includes:

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or later.
Microsoft Access 2010 or later to store the details in databases.
Mozilla Firefox to load the application.

Thank You For Listening
By making this project, We have received a very broad understanding of the asp.net framework and we have fully understood the essentials concepts which are needed to make the project and to apply different functions to them.
This application is working properly and meets all user/clients requirements. We learned that programming is not only an imaginative activity, but also an intellectually demanding part of the process of creating the project.
Microsoft SQL
SQL stands for Structured Query Language. SQL lets you access and manipulate databases

SQL is an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standard

SQL has been used in our project to;

execute queries against a database
retrieve data from a database
insert records in a database
update records in a database
delete records from a database
create new databases
create new tables in a database
create stored procedures in a database
create views in a database
set permissions on tables, procedures, and views
Microsoft SQL is a relational database management system (RDBMS) built on SQL Server technologies.
It is a highly obtainable, accessible, multi-tenant database service hosted by Microsoft in the cloud. Microsoft SQL aids in simplifying provisioning and placement of multiple databases.
