In 1863 the newly formed English Football Association set rules for the soccer ball. It needs to be spherical, with a circumference of 27-28 inches. The rule still exists today
How The Soccer Ball Has Changed
The soccer ball continued to evolve, adding padding, designs and stronger bladders.
Charles Goodwin made the first full rubber ball in 1855.
The History of The Soccer Ball
The ancient inflated organs were covered with leather to help them maintain their shape.
In the 1900s soccer ball rubber was hardened, and they could withstand more pressure. They were whitewashed, made lighter, and the lea surrounding it started to change. FIFA had to try and keep the soccer balls the same, as different country's preferred different balls.
THE HISTORY OF THE SOCCER BALL
Ancient balls (before soccer) could be made of stitched up cloth, inflated organs, or human heads.
