Let's learn how to use keywords on the Internet! We are going to find information about sea turtles using keywords and questions. This is meant to be a guided Lesson for 3rd grade students.

Learn how to use keywords on the Internet Keywords Are Your Key to Success! What are Keywords? SEARCH Have you ever done a search on the Internet before? Sources The words you use to search for information online.
KEY: very important
Keywords: these are the most important words
you use when you conduct an internet
search. When you want to find out information about anything on the Internet.
Let's SEARCH for information on sea turtles. To look for information on the Internet We are going to go to:
www.safesearchkids.com/google-for-kids.html Background: Google images;
www.seapics.com http://www.commonsensemedia.org/educators/lesson/using-keywords-k-2 When Do I Use Keywords? How do I use keywords? Use keywords to help you find information.
Find your keywords by asking yourself some questions. Where do sea turtles live? What do sea turtles eat? How long do sea turtles live? Pick one of the questions your group came up with. THEN When the Google site appears:
1. Click the text box next to the search button.
2. Then type in the keywords your group has selected
Raise your hand if you need help. Double check your spelling 1. Click the Search button.
You will see a page titled SEARCH RESULTS or a list of results below the keywords What do you think this page shows? It shows the results of the search you used with your keywords. The results are websites with facts and information . Look at the websites 1.Read the descriptions.
2. Decide with your group which website you think will answer your question. Once your group has decided on which website to go to, click on the website.
Look for information and pictures that will help you answer your question. Some websites you may have found are: 1. worldbook.com/world-book.../1338-how-long-do-sea-turtles-live 2.animals.howstuffworks.com/reptiles/turtle-info7.htm 3.www.turtlepuddle.org/kidspage/questions.html What did you find?
