-the black sea is an inland sea that is completely surrounded by land
-during the winter winds bring cold harsh winds and strong storms while warm summers bring guests to the resorts

broad plains:
-most of central Europe & Northern Eurasia is covered in plains & rolling hills
-movement in the region has been fairly easy throughout history because of the hill filled lands

Winter on the Neva:
- The Neva river runs through St. Petersburg, Russia
-during the winter the lake freezes over & local residents like to cut holes in the lake to go ice fishing

Today you are going to learn the Physical geography of Central Europe & Northern Eurasia. There are six different aspects of the land and the culture. These things include, the physical characteristics, climates, ecosystems, people and culture, economics, and health care. Hope you enjoy this very interesting lesson. Now lets get it started!!
The Danube river:
- 1,770 miles long
- moves through a narrow gorge called the iron gates
- 2nd largest river in Europe
Lake Baikal:
-located in southern Siberia
-worlds deepest lake(holds 20% of the worlds fresh water)

Climate zones
-the climates of central Europe & Northern Eurasia range from mild Mediterranean to freezing tundra
- Irkutsk, Russia in Siberia has the coldest winters than the rest of the world except for Antarctica
- Budapest, Hungary enjoys more milder weather

Forest ecosystems
-Bialowieza National Park in poland has one of the largest surviving areas of forests that covered most of Europe in 8000 B.C
-the park is home to European bison, elk, deer, wolves, & wild horses

-the steppe covers most of Ukraine and southern Russia provides fertile soil for agriculture

-what differentiates the tundra from other ecosystems is the tundra(duh) and the lakes
-the polar conditions in northern affect everything except the tough grasses, mosses, & lichens which grow during the summer that doesn't last long

Orthodox Christianity:
- Very import in Central Europe for centuries
-Communist Governments restricted religious activities
-Democracy has given people more opportunity to practice traditional faiths.

Estonian Culture:
-Central Europe and Northern Eurasia are home to dozens of ethnic groups such as, the Romans, Greeks, & Turks etc.
-An ethnic group is composed of people who share things such as culture,language, and religion

Urban Life:
- Like most cities in this region, Prague can brag about the mixture o traditional architecture

Women in the Work Force:
-Women have made up more than 50% of Russia's workforce
-Women workers can be found in nearly every profession, from bus driving to medicine

Baltic Port:
- The Russian port of Vybog lies on the Gulf of Finland.
-For centuries, Russian leaders have sought ports that can be open to shipping throughout the year

- Industrial activities in Central Europe & Northern Eurasia have resulted in acid rain
-A form of pollution in which toxic chemicals in the air come back to the Earths rain, snow, or hail

Infant Mortality rate: the number of children per 1,000 live births who die within the first year
Maternal Mortality rate: the number of women who die due to pregnancy and child birth complications, per 100,000 live births
Life Expectancy rate: the number of years an individual is expected to live as determined by statistics, is fairly high in land
