Regular Physical Activity
Definition of
Physical Activity (EXERCISE)

Athletic

recreational
or
occupational
activities that require physical skills and utilize strength, power, endurance, speed, flexibility, range of motion or agility.





* Physical activity is any activity that causes your body to
work harder than normal
. It describes activities that are beyond your daily routine of sitting, standing, and walking up stairs.

Your life is in your hands

minutes of physical activity is recommended daily.
• You should be moving continuously for the

minutes or you can break the
60
minutes down into 10-minute segments throughout the day.

MVPA
(Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity) should be the consistency of your workout.
• Start out with a low-intensity warm up then move to
MVPA
• Greater Health benefits can be achieved by increasing the
frequency

intensity,
and
duration(Time)
of physical Activity.

How much Physical Activity is recommended to optimize Health?

Moderate Activities:
Ballroom or Line Dancing
Hiking on level ground or with few hills
General gardening(Raking, mowing the lawn, trimming shrubs)
Sports where you catch or throw(Baseball, Softball, Volleyball)
Walking briskly
Canoeing
Tennis (Doubles)
(You can talk while you do them but cannot sing)
Vigorous Activities:
(You can say a few words without stopping to catch your breath)
Aerobic dance
Biking faster than 10 miles an hour
Heavy gardening(Digging, hoeing)
Hiking uphill
Jumping Rope
Martial Arts(Karate)
Race walking, jogging, running
Sports with lots of running ( Basketball, Soccer, Hockey)
Swimming fast or laps
Tennis (Singles)
Burn calories and reduce body fat: helps maintain or lose weight
Increase your chance of living longer
Increase efficiency of heart, lungs, and circulatory system
Reduce your risk of Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and Heart disease
Prevent diseases such as osteoporosis and depression
Improve chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease
Reduce your risk of some cancers
Reduces stress and stress related illnesses
Improve your fitness and ability to perform daily activities (Increases energy level: the body can work harder before getting tired)

BRAIN BOOSTER: Increases cognitive function such as Executive functioning skills,attention span, memory and verbal comprehension, higher test scores
