Elizabeth Smart by brooke francis
Captivity
Mitchell would rape Elizabeth daily, and keep her tethered to a tree. He would force her to consume huge amounts of drugs and alchol. He would expose her to terrible pornographic things. They were staying in salt lake city for most of the time, and then they moved to california. Elizabeth knew that there was no turning back and she had no chance of being found. In california they lived in a forest like place, and would be fed by a local church and homeless shelters. They eventually moved up into the mountains in california.
Surviving
Elizabeth would say how Mitchell and Barzee would fight, argue, and yell alot. When they were in california they got in a fight and mitchell left for 3-5 days. Elizabeth and Barzee nearly died of starvation and dehydration.

Coming Home
Once they arrived at the police station they placed in her in a large room and sat her down on a couch. A few minutes later her dad walked in, and they hugged and cried and laughed. Later they took her to another place and her mom was there, they kept asking her questions and all she wanted to do was go home. She finally got to go home and see her siblings and try to get back to normal, but of course press and other people are asking so many questions. It was hard.
Recovering
She got home, and her mom told her, the best way to get back at him is to be happy and get on with your life. Which she did, she got back to normal, well as normal as she could. She started playing her harp, hanging out with friends, and being happy! She also started some horse therapy. She has completely put this terrible past behind her and started a brand new perfect life.
Going Home
When Mitchell finally came back from being gone for a week, they talked about leaving California and Elizabeth knew this was her chance. She used Mitchells tricks of decieving, and convinced him that they should go back to Salt Lake City. They made a plan to go back and this plan included how they would get there and how they would disguise Elizabeth, because they would be hitch hiking the whole way there.
Kidnapping
On June 2, 2002, Elizabeth was kidnapped from her bedroom and taken by Brian David Mitchell, he held a knife to her neck repeatedly telling her how he would kill she and her family if she made a noise. He led her all the way into a canyon and all the way up a mountain. When they finally got to their camp she met his wife Wanda Barzee. She was stripped of her clothes and forced to wear a nasty rag-like dress. Throughout the 9 months Mitchell would insist he was a prophet named immanuel.
Getting Rescued
When they arrived in Salt Lake City they were walking towards the mountains they were staying in before. When a cop stopped them and was asking them a bunch of questions. Elizabeth did not say one word, until one of the police men grabbed he and pulled her aside and asked her if she was Elizabeth smart, and letting her know that her family missed er and wanted her to come home. Right then she cried and said, I am Elizabeth. The police men put her in the car and called her parents and took Barzee and Mitchell.
