Astra Tech has a very unique system that actually works with the human body’s natural
healing process. This implant system normally has very strong and stable connects between the implant and the bone because the implant has a chemically modified titanium surface, which is able to speed up the healing and generate more bone. Atlantis CADCAM abutments for cement retained implant supported restorations
- CADCAM designs allow each abutment to be patient specific with no need to alter stock abutments.
- milled with high precision
- available for all major implant systems
- Available in titanium, gold shaded titanium, and 4 shades of zirconia
abutments are shaped anatomically like natural teeth for better aesthetics and function


Method:
Abutments are designed using the ATLANTIS VAD (virtual abutment design) software using the final tooth shape for the most esthetic and functional results
Abutment orders can either be scanned in-house or models with removeable soft tissue can be articulated and shipped to an ATLANTIS manufacturing facility.
Using their WebOrder system you can modify any design preferences such as type of emergence profile or material if you sent out models, or use the ATLANTIS VAD software to design yourself.
They are then manufactured, inspected and shipped. They are then ready to fabricate a final restoration on top.
 
Options: emergence width and shape for differing amounts of tissue pressure, margin position, margin design, parallel abutments for larger cases


CastDesign Abutments
 
-Astra Techs CastDesign abutments are used for both cement retained and screw retained restorations.
It is a two piece abutment that has a base made of non-oxidizing gold alloy and a plastic cylinder made of PMMA, which is customizable for the individual needs. It also has a conical shape that provides a stable and tight fit to the implant.
 
- It comes in two different diameters, which are 4.1mm and 4.5mm and has a vertical height of 10 mm. There is also a 1mm height between the implant level and the prep boarder.
 
-Indications for the CastDesign are all types of cement retained restorations, from single- tooth restorations to fully edentulous cases. Screw-retained restorations are only used for single tooth situations.

TiDesign Abutments

Yellow (3.0) with 15Ncm installation torque, aqua (3.5, 4.0)
with 20Ncm, lilac (4.5, 5.0) with 25Ncm
-Also have straight and angeled options
ZirDesign Abutments
"ZirDesign is a two-piece component fabricated in zirconia. It is easily modified to support a very esthetic, anatomically-designed prosthetic solution. ZirDesign is intended for use in the anterior and pre-molar regions and comes in an angled version to meet more demanding implant angulations. It is not recommended for use in the molar regions.
ZirDesign is pre-shaped with a scalloped prosthetic margin, which requires minimal modifications." (Dentsply, 2013)

UniAbutment
Uniabutments are intermediary abutments for splinted, screw retained restorations and substructures. They are used in cases that have more than 2mm of tissue height above the implants or to correct an unfavourable screw access path.

Straight Uniabutments 
-Straight uniabutments are non-indexed, and machined so that the screw and abutment are a single entity. They are made with either a 20 or 45 degree cone in order to achieve a common path of insertion. Both are available in six collar heights and are not colour coded. *A special uniabutment driver is required to torque the abutments in place.

Angled Uniabutments
-Angled uniabutments are machined as a two part set, the screw and abutment, with a 20 degree angle. They can be either indexed or non-indexed and are available in two collar heights. They are not colour coded and no other markings are present on the abutments.

Angled Abutments
-Implants may not be inserted straight, depending on the adjacent teeth
-Angled abutment allows the crown to be at a different angle from the implant (typically no more than 20 degree angulations)
-Intended to be used for partial or edentulous situations
-Anterior and posterior
-Four different configurations of the Angled Abutment are available:
3.5, 4.0, 4.5/5.0 and 4.5/5.0, High.

Advantages
Allows for proper anatomy, up to a 20 degree difference in angulation

Disadvantages
Stress on the bone, due to difference in angle, when you bite down, the implant pushes (left and right) against the bone, may damage the bone

-LOCATOR abutments are intended for non-splinted restorations in the mandible for overdenture treatment. It’s short, 2.5 mm, making it suitable for all patients including those with little occlusal space or angulation problems.
-The abutment provides up to 40 degrees of angle correction. With varying LOCATOR inserts Varying from 680 grams, up to 1814 grams.

-Technician has to use an UCLA abutment, which has plastic sheath that is place on the top of a metal platform interface, to cast a custom abutment.

To Fabricating a Cast Custom Abutment
In order to achieve the ideal shape, contour, and emergence profile needed for the individual restoration, a technician has to start with waxing over the UCLA abutment.
Then the technician sprues and invests the pattern and places it in a burnout furnace. Then we all know the rest…

Temp designs are used in single, partial, and totally edentulous situations. they can be positioned anywhere in the mouth, and are cement and screw retained restorations. Consist of two piece components, that function as temporary implant level constructions. when using one of these abutments, the soft tissue can be sculptured for optimal final esthetics

They can be easily customized chair side, but in most cases it is sent to the dental lab. In order to support soft tissue and avoid unnecessary interferences with the biological process, the customized abutments should be finished as close to final restoration
