Although translation is an important aspect of localization, it is just part of the localization process.

Localization involves customizing the language and cultural aspects of a product or website. Web localization involves ensuring all forms, dates, currencies, colors, logos, symbols, icons, graphics, and more are customized to the targeted locale.

Approximately 40% of total revenue comes from non-English speaking countries

Can't Read, Won't buy

56.2%

say information in their own language is more important than price. - Common Sense Advisory

Localization is all about going global

75% say they want the products in their native languages

Even in Europe where English speakers are common? 9 out of 10 users would prefer to visit a website in their own language

95% of chinese online consumers prefer Chinese-only websites and Chinese shoppers will outspend the US in 2013

74 percent of multinational enterprises believe it is either important or most important to achieve increased revenues from global operations. (California State University at Chico, 2007)

REPEAT
1. Devs updates code, commits strings to GitHub
2. Translatable strings are synced with our special translation tool Transifex.com
3. Transifex notifies translators of new strings
4. Strings are translated (context helps!)
5. Translations are synced back to GitHUB
6. New code is deployed, feature switch to internal only
7. i18n QA (Linguistic and functional testing)
8. Fix what you can in Transifex, notify PM of problems that cannot be solved by changing translations
UNTIL quality_is_acceptable;
RELEASE // feature switch to public
