-College
-Dental school
-A general surgery internship year
-Additional 3 years of specialized training
-The full course of training requires approximately 12 years -Administer general and local anesthetics
-Collaborate with other professionals to plan the treatment
-Perform surgery on mouth/jaws to treat condition(s)
-Perform surgery to prepare the mouth for dental implants and to aid in the regeneration of deficient bone and gum tissues (if needed)
-Provide emergency treatment of facial injuries (if needed)
-Remove impacted, damaged, and non-restorable teeth (if needed
-Prescribe salt water rinses or medications for any pain -Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face.
-Oral and maxillofacial surgeons care for patients who experience such conditions as problem wisdom teeth, facial pain, and misaligned jaws.
-They treat accident victims suffering facial injuries, offer reconstructive and dental implant surgery, and care for patients with tumors and cysts of the jaws and functional and esthetic conditions of the maxillofacial areas.
