Brian Huynh APHS seems to be lacking much in the area of sports. Their campus only has one multi-purpose square field and a basketball court, no football fields or baseball diamonds. They do not advertise winning teams in athletics either, however they do have a boxing club. Athletics This school (as all public buildings are) is required to have smoke detectors and fire alarms. Temperature is also regulated by the school itself.
The school, as well as the neighboring Patano High School has its own water treatment facility. Building Services One of the most beautiful things about this school is the ability to create a modern, inoffensive décor. All components of this school are fully functional and the form with it accentuates the space’s potential. For example, the big cafeteria/multipurpose room has windows for walls, high ceilings, and crossed metal beams, much like an aircraft hangar. Pictured is a staircase, another example, with a sleek curvature that suggests a modern art, while still serving hundreds of people and holding their weight. Form and Function Andrada Poly advertises specialty classes for students in:
Bioscience: APHS offers three levels of classes in science and technology, including cell biology, forensics, genetics, cancer biology, plant science, pharmacy, ecology and anthropology.
Healthcare: Sports medicine, veterinary assisting, and mental/behavioral health
Transportation Technologies: Auto shop, engineering and mechanics Specialties Tucson, Arizona is known for its desert climate. It is consistently cooler than Phoenix, but it still gets considerably warm, topping off at about 100 degrees in July. Tucson gets a very small amount of rain, with about 2 inches in it’s wettest season. Climate Andrada Polytechnic offers many honors and AP courses, as well as many academic clubs such as NHS. They offer specific classes such as Bioscience, Healthcare, and Transportation Technology courses. Andrada seems to do well in academics. Classes Andrada Polytechnic does advertise an art club, but they don’t seem to be renowned for their art program. Art Andrada is a great example of a sustainable school because they actually have their own wastewater treatment facility, built by Integrated Water Services. This facility is shared with the neighboring Patano High School. Sustainable Information The interior of APHS is continued from the outside, with sleek décor painted in neutral grays, with bold splashes of color here and there. The inside uses many metal poles crossed to create structure. The curtain walls let in light and a view of the Tucson desert. Interior The exterior of Andrada Polytechnic is beautiful. Its contemporary design and high curtain walls allow people to see inside, where the modern elements are continued. The colors that APHS is painted in are neutral grays, with a bold, colorfully painted segment here and there. The school has achieved a sleek, hip vibe while blending into the Tucson desert. Exterior There seems to be two parking lots around the main building, a large one for students, and a smaller one for faculty. The student parking lot could have potential traffic issues. The street that comes of the main road is not marked, and the outlets, inlets, and corners are bottleneck-potential. Marking the road to dictate in what direction cars should go, angling the parking spaces to reflect the flow of traffic, and even restricting access to some of the inlets during high-traffic hours would help it run more smoothly. Parking Details and Standards Most students in the zip-code area come from middle-class parents, however this school seems like one for the rich. Students here seem to have more responsibility, as there are few of them. They are each provided with a laptop computer and power outlets to charge, suggesting knowledge on how to use such equipment Socio-Economic Profile While there is lots of space for people to wander around, it is not clear whether the school is outfitted with elevators for handicapped users. Building Barrier-Free In the commons, there is a staircase pictured that reaches from a loft down to the ground. There are many rooms off on different sides all around, with very little hallway.
There is a high curtain window that extends up from the top of the 2nd floor to the ground. Structural Details APHS is wide-spread. It’s landscaping is mainly the terrain of the Tucson desert, as seen from the erratic spacing of bushes and dirt. The schoolrooms themself are focused in one main building, which works beautifully for a hot climate. The smaller building pictured in similar style is connected to the school by road. If it is the school office building, I would consider that to be poor planning because a principal needs to be closer in case of emergency. It could be a district office building, where the Vail School District could expand upon. It is evident that APHS does not place much importance on sports, since the school lacks football and baseball fields.
APHS is actually on the outskirts of town and within 500 yards of another high school in the area, Patano High School. Site Planning and Landscaping There are only a small amount of students at APHS and the space for them is quite roomy at this time. They seem to circulate intuitively within the school, there aren’t any designated directions in which they must circulate. In the commons, which is in the very middle of the building, people seem to circle around the edge of the area (which is circular) and that is essentially the way in which they travel from class to class. Vertical and Horizontal Circulation Andrada Polytechnic uses high ceilings and glass walls to create a light, clean atmosphere. The wide spaces allow for students to roam, plus an extra floor. The two floors in the cafeteria area are under the same ceiling, allowing for a more open, lit interior. Many students are acclimated for in the gathering halls and media areas. Rooms are not always sectioned off, but open walkways allow for open, easy access to the students.
APHS is also secluded a bit from the rest of the residential and industrial area.
It allots for 1,100 students Space and Utility The people in this area of town are well off, making 52,000 a year on average. Tucson has been known to be predominantly Caucasian, but recent studies have seen a rising increase in Hispanic people in the area. Most kids at this school would be from a more wealthy family. The curtain windows are another working aspect. They let in light and a view of the desert.
The splashes of bright in the mostly neutral color scheme work well in a school format, accentuating the schools diverse population.
APHS also has wide open spaces in the commons, allowing for social interaction.
This school seems to have everything. They have cyber café, a tech center, a juice bar, yoga classes for teachers and parents, etc. This school seems like a paradise. The parking lot is a bit small to accommodate even 600 students. It also has a chance of bottlenecking at outlets and inlets off the main road.
There doesn’t seem to be many options for handicapped students.
While curtain walls are beautiful and let in lots of light, as praised earlier, the sun especially in the summer would make it very hot inside.
Their lack of sports facilities are a let-down to students wishing to participate in sports

Art Hazelwood School does not have an athletics department, but physical activities are included every day for the students. The school houses a hydrotherapy pool for the students. Outside, students can play or socialize. Athletics Much like Gary Comer College Prep, Hazelwood School cuts down on the need for electric light by adding windows up high, letting in daylight.
Hazelwood School has also been awarded the Green Flag through their recycling programs and gardens in the school. Sustainability Classroom Interior This beautiful school blends into the landscape around it. It has a low-pitched roof, with wooden-slat walls to emulate the trees that grow in the Glasgow area. The roof is a light blue metal of some sort that looks a lit like the sky. There are many windows up high, but none closer to ground level. Exterior Floor Plan The students at Hazelwood School would not be able to drive because of their conditions. There is a very small parking lot for teachers and staff near the entrance, and a round drop-off area for students, perhaps either by parent or bus. Parking Details and Standards Students all over Glasgow are here for this specialty school. There is no specification or stereotype about the economic status of the students due to the nature of the school. Socio-Economic Profile Hazelwood School is an excellent example of building barrier free because it is a school designed for impaired students. The hallways are covered in cork, rather than handrails to allow bling students to feel around the wall to find their way. The hallways are lined with cork to help visually impaired students find their way. The building takes many twists, turns, corners, etc. but that is purposeful, to help the students learn overcome challenges in the real world

A hydrotherapy pool Structural Details The building is built around the trees in the area. It has a curvy shape to it. Bringing trees into the design provides a relaxing environment. Hazelwood’s plan resembles a sea horse. Ten classrooms occupy about half the space, while additional functions, such as the music room and library, fit on opposite side of the building; A gymnasium, hydrotherapy pool, and kitchen are placed into the western side of the structure, and a wedge-shaped multi-use cafeteria and entrance area sit immediately end-to-end to this group. Site Planning and Landscaping Students circulate pretty well around the school’s single, large hallway. There is a very small amount of students, so circulation is not an issue. There is more than enough room for all of them. The school only has one floor, so there are no problems with how students might move from floor to floor. Vertical and Horizontal Circulation Hazelwood uses cork on their walls, which not only looks cool, but it allows for blind students to feel the hallway walls to find their way. Nearly everything at this school has a functional priority. Form and Function In every classroom, cabinets and cubbies allow storage for supplies needed to help out disabled kids. The building takes many twists, turns, corners, etc. but that is purposeful, to help the students learn overcome challenges in the real world. Winters are long and rainy, with seldom sign of the sun. Springtime is pleasant. Summers are humid, with sun and mild weather. Art The facilities for sports are either provided at the Gary Comer Youth Center or at nearby parks, not on campus.

Track Athletics GCCP cuts down on electricity usage for lighting because of the daylight from outside coming in, illuminating the school’s interior. Sustainability The classrooms are small, and only house about 20 students. Each classroom comes with cubbies and an 8-foot tall whiteboard. The wall facing the hallway is transparent, to ensure security and allow light. Classrooms Classroom Interior The exterior of the building is painted in a bright, eye-catching green that stands out from the rest of the neighborhood. There is a stainless steel scrim that covers one façade and extends to shield the parking lot from view. The building has a simple, rectangular shape with young trees and plants along the sidewalks. It shares a parking lot with the neighboring Gary Comer Youth Center, also painted in brights and similar structure. Exterior Exterior Most students at Gary Comer College Prep are from low-income families in the area. A majority of them are minorities below the poverty line, and GCCP’s goal is to encourage them to be able to lead a successful life, which is why this school is so important. This parking lot seems to be well designed, as there is enough space for two cars on the driveway, which is enough needed to back out of a space. It is not expected to house many cars (as most students would not be able to afford one). There appears to be a smaller teacher ‘s parking lot on the opposite side of the building as well. Transparent walls Structural Details Students circulate through hallways and through staircases. The hallways wind around the outside perimeter and one large hallway in the middle. There are two large staircases placed in the middle of the large hallway. The students circulate pretty easily through the school because of the small population of students. Vertical and Horizontal Circulation GCCP utilizes form in the fact that it is a beautiful school. The scrim out front serves at least two functions: to protect the building, and to extend to protect the parking lot. It also looks pretty cool. The way in which the second floor is detached from the window is a bit odd and not commonly seen, but it serves the purpose of allowing light on the first floor. Most schools follow function before form. This one remains simple in form, but striking anyway. Form and Function GCCP has lockers down nearly every long, narrow hallway. Each classroom has a transparent wall which lets in daylight from the curtain windows in the hallways. Each classroom is also outfitted with cubbies and 8-foot tall whiteboards. The classrooms themselves are relatively small, well suited for the student population of about 600. GCCP also includes a Space and Utility Chicago, Illinois is known for its humid continental climate. It has four distinct seasons: wet springs; hot, and often humid summers; pleasant autumns; and cold winters. 78 to 92 °F is about the hottest Chicago will get, and the coldest nights in Winter will drop below 0 °F. Chicago is often known as the Windy City because of the string winds off Lake Michigan. They use recyclable trays Sustainable Information Parking Winner of the prestigious Sterling Prize in 2011, Davis Langdon, an AECOM company, worked closely with the client and architect, Zaha Hadid, to ensure the academy met the needs of its diverse student population.
It is designed to encourage social communication and help facilitate a new planned school configuration. It will be one of the first schools to deliver an innovative learning structure that will feature longer days to allow for sports and music. Socio-Economic Profile: Due to a heavy crime rate in this part of London, some teachers actually take the children away from the class to work on the psychological side to them. Since many of the kids who come there have witnessed disturbing events and are taken out of the normal classrooms to more slow ones to help them out. Horizontal: Since the school is so tightly packed, there isn’t much room for horizontal circulation. The main circulation is in the wide hallways between classrooms. Form: Over all theme seems to be strong angles and edges. The climate of London is temperate, with modest daily high temperatures during summer and winter lows that seldom fall below freezing. Rainfall is fairly regular, but most often in the form of drizzle, occurring throughout the year. Snow occurs sometimes in winter but rarely settles more than a few millimeters deep.
Environment:
Basic environment around Evelyn Grace Academy is city. The school is located in South London and in the middle of the city. There’s little room for expansion and even less for any sort of plant life.
