Life after presidency

James wrote a lot
He had several causes he was interested in
freed blacks in Africa
Life as president
Madison oversaw the first foreign war under the constitution and was forced to adjust expectations he had formed while drafting that document

He believed in a yet balanced federal government
Before Becoming President
Madison wrote the firsts drafts of the U.S. constitution, co-wrote the federalist papers and sponsored by Bill of Rights
Madison and Thomas Jefferson 1743-1826 founded the Democratic Republican party, which has been called Americas first opposition Political party
When Jefferson became the third U.S. president Madison served as his secretary of state
