The Circulatory System
•Transport gases, like oxygen from the lungs to cells around the body and carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs.
•Transport nutrients like glucose.
•Transport wastes from cells to organs that play the role of eliminating them.
•It contains cells that fight infections and defend against foreign bodies.
•Maintains the pH levels and ionic concentration of fluids in the body.
•Helps maintain the body temperature, this is especially important in warm blooded animals like humans. The Circulatory System consists of:
-The Heart
-The Blood
-The Blood Vessels
Pumps blood through out the body
Is located in the center of you chest but slightly to the left
The “thump-thump” of a heartbeat is the sound made by the four valves of the heart closing. What is involved in the Circulatory System? What is the function of the Circulatory System? Blood Vessels:
-Form a tubular network throughout the body that allows blood flow from the heart to everybody part and back to the heart. There are 3 main types of blood vessels:

Arteries: elastic vessels that transport blood away from the heart.
Veins: elastic vessels that transport blood to the heart.
Capillaries: extremely small vessels located within the tissues of the body that transport blood from the arteries to the veins. • The heart beats around 3 billion times in the averages person's life.
• About 8 million blood cells die in the human body every second, and the same number are born each second.
• Within a tiny droplet of blood, there are some 5 million red blood cells.
• It takes about 20 seconds for a red blood cell to circle the whole body.
• Red blood cells make approximately 250,000 round trips of the body before returning to the bone marrow, where they were born, to die.
• Red blood cells may live for about 4 months circulating throughout the body, feeding the 60 trillion other body cells.
• The left side of the heart contains oxygenated blood whereas the right side has de-oxygenated blood.
• One drop of blood has about 5 million red blood cells and 12 thousand white blood cells.
• The heartbeats about 30 million times in 365 days.
• 10 million blood cells die in the human body every second, the same quantity is produced at the same time.
• Blood circulates the entire body in 20 seconds.
• An average heart pumps about 450 gallons of blood everyday.
• One of the surprising facts is that the heartbeat is the sound of the valves opening and closing.
• An average adult's body has about 5 liters of blood in it and a baby's body has about 1 liter of blood in it.
• A human heart is a muscle which is the size of a clenched fist.
• Blood cells die in every 4 months.
• The plasma in the blood is made in the liver.
• One of the amazing facts about this system is that the heart continues to beat even when it is taken out of the body!
Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body, and are responsible for the color of our blood.
White blood cells fight of bacterias and infections. How does the Circulatory system interact with other systems? The Circulatory system interacts with the respiratory system and the nervous system. The respiratory system contains the lungs which fill your body with oxygen and gets rid of excess carbon dioxide. The nervous system tells the heart to beat. What type of cells are in the blood?
