Titanic-Jack &Rose Archetypes: Star-Crossed Lovers Mark Antony and Cleopatra by Shakespeare 1606
-Their love affair outraged the Romans
- Despite all the threats, Anthony and Cleopatra got married.
-It is said that while fighting a battle against Romans, Antony got false news of Cleopatra's death. Shattered, he fell on his sword. Anthony & Cleopatra There is nothing worse than being in love with someone, when you have no idea the relationship is doomed from the beginning!
A weaving fairy and commoner fall in love, get married, are forced to seperate and are blocked away from each other by the Milky Way. Out of compassion for them on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month each year flocks of magpies form a bridge over the Milky Way allowing the Cowherd and the weaving girl to see each other. The story Atonement centres around the characters Cecilia and Robbie who are deeply in love. Cecilia’s sister Briony catches Cecilia and Robbie having sexual relations and doesn’t understand what she sees. She interprets what she sees as Robbie attacking Cecilia. Following this, Briony’s cousin, Lola is raped by an older man, and Briony tells the police that it was Robbie that raped Lola. Briony does this because she now thinks Robbie is a criminal. Robbie is then sent to jail. During his time in jail, the Second World War begins and he is sent away to fight. While he is out fighting at war he dies.

Jack and Ennis are two gay men that start a relationship together while herding sheep. They are forced apart because the story takes place in the 60’s and back then being a homosexual was not accepted the way it is today. Additionally, they are both married. Inevitably their marriages fail and Ennis dies so they never could have had a lasting relationship together.

Oedipus falls in love with his mother/wife, however does not know it is his mother, when the two find out that they are blood related, Jocasta kills herself in shame, and love for Oedipus, while Oedipus pokes out his eyes for his shame. Although, the two loved each other very much, it was fate that they will eventually find out that they are blood related ; restricting their love for each other. "From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-cross'd lovers, take their life." (Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet).
Surprise!! Shakespeare was the one that originally came up with the term "star-crossed lovers". QUICK REVIEW What is a star-crossed lover? Star-Crossed Lovers is an archetype that associates with two characters. These two characters are deeply in love, but are separated by fate. They could be a couple in love whose relationship was said to be doomed from the beginning or society, family, or a tragic situation causes the couple to end their relationship. •Decaying rose- demonstrates love falling apart, also that love will soon end

•Cupid- to help better theme and plot- the development of love between the two lovers

•Star- symbolizes fate for their love
