Shadow and Bone By leigh Bardugo
Transcript of Shadow and Bone By leigh Bardugo
-Orphaned by the border wars Alina is shipped to karamzin at a very young age.
Text to Text: This book reminds me of the book by Jennifer .L. Armentrout. In both texts there is one young woman who is relied on to save the place they call home from the antagonist.
Text to World: This book also reminds me of Russia due to the similarites between the society of Ravka and Russia. Both cultures are very similar due to the fact that Ravka is a fantasy version of Russia.
Shadow and Bone
By: Leigh Bardugo
The shadow fold. This is where evil was born. In a treacherous, shadow filled land that cuts through Ravka's borders. A land where light never shines and darkness reigns. Where monsters lay in wait of their prey, cloaked by the shadowy embrace of the darkness. This is where Alina's story starts to unfold. A place that was created centuries ago in the past will forever change Alina's future. If it doesn't take it from her first.
Alina Starkov: Small, Out going, Brave, Mousy brown hair, sarcastic, Not afraid to speak her mind, Will stand up for herself, Sun summoner, orphan.
Mal Oretsev: Smart, Bright blue eyes, Caring, Loyal, Best tracker of his regiment, Alina's best friend since childhood.
Genya: Blazing red hair, Kind, Good friend, Royals Grisha tailor, Thought lowly of by other Grisha, Raised in castle since age of 5.
Ivan: Cocky, Handsome, Short brown hair, Darklings right hand man, Heartrender, Narcissistic.
In conclusion, this book communicates that even though u may have felt different and alone for a long time, there is always a place where you belong.
Darkling: Controller of shadows, Jet black hair, Isn't who he says he is, Mysterious, Grey quartz eyes.

This book is very different from anything else that I've ever read, which is why when I picked it up and started to read it I couldn't put it down. The authors reinvention of a fantasy world taking place in a country reminiscent of imperial Russia was very intriguing and creative. I would rate this book a 8.5 out of 10.
The protagonist is Alina Starkov. Alina is the protagonist because it is told from her point of view in first person. Also, the story revolves around Alina's life and the problems and obstacles that are created when she journeys to the grand palace in Os Alta.
The antagonist is the Darkling. The Darkling is the antagonist because he opposes the protagonist. In the book the Darkling creates a situation in which the protagonist (Alina) is forced to fight against him because they don't share the same ideals.
-Alina is brought to Os Alta beacause she releases an extraordinary ability only heard of in old folktales and stories.
-She meets the Darkling and realizes too late why she was ordered to be brought there.
-With the help of a friend Alina escapes the grand palace and delays the Darkings plans.
- The final resolution is revealed in the third and final book.
-After many years at Karamzin Alina and mal join the army.
-After adapting to their regiment from long days and even longer months Alina and Mal's regiment is chosen to enter the shadow fold.
-Hoping to come back with the needed supplies and food, Alina swallows her fears and readies to board the sand skiff across the hazy blackness.
- Her hope of a smooth and silent ride is shattered when volcra attack and kill many men.
-Mal is injured trying to protect Alina and in a desperate attempt to save him she releases a dormant power.
-This, so she can be trained, gets her a one way ticket to the grand palace, and the waiting adventures
