Transcript of The Goal of Discipleship

Fruits: Long-Term Goals
Qualities: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control,
as manifested in Community.

Purposes: answering God's call
and doing God's work,
in communion with God
and with others.
The Goal of Discipleship
"and teaching them
to obey everything
that I have commanded you."
After initiating them, we are supposed to teach
new believers about the values and the practices
of the Kingdom community of God.

Life patterns - ways of being, thinking, feeling, speaking, acting, and reacting - are different
in God's community, and people are supposed
to change.
Leaves: First Steps to Goals
Assessments - Resources and Needs

Visions and Goals - Where do we want to go?
(Seeing the End Result)

(Methods for the Journey)

we're on the way?
(Benchmarks and Mile-markers)
Flowers: Short-Term Goals
And Jesus came and said to them,
"All power in heaven and on earth
has been given to Me."
Jesus has received ALL power, in all places of creation.

Therefore, He wanted His disciples, then and now,
to do something special.
"Go therefore"
Big Poppa once said,
'The only things you can catch
in the harbor are minnows and crabs.
You have to launch out,
into the deep, to catch
the big fish.'
Go therefore
and make devoted
learners and followers
of Jesus Christ,
from all the people groups
of the world,

"and make disciples
of all nations,"
Disciples - mathetes (m) mathetria (f);
'A committed learner and follower,
in the NT usually of Jesus Christ.

Nations - ethnos;
(foreign) nations, peoples.
"baptizing them
in the name of the Father
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,"
The Godhead is made up of community. It always has been,
and always will be. Isn't the Church, then, supposed to be a community of believers too?
We are supposed to be about the

business of initiating ('baptizing')

new believers into the Kingdom

community of God and His Church.
"And remember,"
Always remember this;
that no matter what challenges, hazards, or difficulties
may come your way,
in the disciple-making
process,
"I am with you always,
to the end of the age."
Jesus goes before us, above us, besides us, under us, behind us, and inside us. He convicts, convinces, and converts. There is not a place where God will send you, that His grace has not gone before you, preparing the heart and the way.
