The harsh S sound with the swallowing of the
stone. It shows the harshness of being bitter.
It shows how the stone took away the fern.
Naomi Shihab Nye keeps referring to "is famous".
By talking about the stone and fern, it talks about life, if you tuck yourself away, you might disappear. And by not speaking their name of one they love it becomes bitter.
Talking of children, men and tears, discusses how she moved and life, how as long as you remember you, life and everything will stick.
Discussing how the shoe is famous to parts of the earth
Shows how famous certain things are
to others.

Nobody in life knows the same two people, in
fact, everybody has and knows different idols.
She compares herself to a button hole. "I want to be famous in the way a pulley is famous or a button hole, not because it did anything spectacular, but because it never forgot what it could do."
By saying this, she doesn't want to be so fam-
ous, only famous for what she did best.
And in life, you can strive to be remembered for what you do best, not what you didn't do.
By using this refrain, she keeps up the idea of being famous.

In life, everyone is famous in a different way
than another.
This applies to the thesis about life, because in life you can't hide in life.
In life, bitterness can suck you away and you
will disappear.
The shadow of the stone sucked it away.

If you hide in the dark for too long, you would
appear to disappear.
