Dance in India covers a range of dance and dance theatre forms, from the ancient classical or temple dance to folk and modern style
The classical Indian dance forms can be traced to different parts of the India
Each form represents the culture and ideals of a particular region or a group of people. The presentation of Indian
dance styles in film, Bollywood,
has exposed the range of
dance in India to a
global audience. Bharatanatyam Bharatanatyam comes from the words Bhava(Expression), Raga (Music), Tala (Rhythm) and Natya (Classic Indian Musical Theatre)
Bharatanatyam is a classical dance
form originating in Tamil Nadu, India.

It is one of the oldest of the classical dance
forms in India.

Bharata Natyam is considered to be
a 'fire dance'

It is one of the five major styles, also
known as the fifth Veda

Other major styles include Odissi (element of
water), Mohiniattam (element of air), Kuchipudi
(element of earth) and Kathakali (element of sky).
In this dance form the dancers make
considerable use of hand-and-eye
movements to express different emotions. INDIAN DANCE Today it is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by male and female dancers all over India
The technique, costume, style and theme
of the dance tell it apart from the other classical dances of India.

Bharatnatyam dance is renowned for its grace, purity, tenderness and
sculpturesque poses.
