What is the Ku Klux Klan?
When you hear KKK the first thing that may come to your mind is the Kardashian sisters, but it actually stands for Ku Klux Klan which was an organization that arose in Mississippi, United States in 1800s after the civil war. It was founded by veterans of the Confederate Army. Its purpose was to restore white supremacy which is known as ethnocentrism and social Darwinism.

Symbol Meaning
The insignias of the Klan often include a white cross, sometimes with a drop of red blood in the center.
The symbol is called M.I.O.A.K. (Mystic Insignia Of A Klansman) is a red, round patch worn over the left breast of a Klans mans robe.
The Ku Klux Klan has a great influence on the book's plot, not only because Sam was part of it but also because the book showcased the many negative effects that discrimination brought to society, specially in segregations like the Klan.
We believe this topic reminds us the importance of people like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King that have made huge changes towards a better humanity.
The blood drop in the center of the cross represents the bloodshed of Jesus Christ at the Crucifixtion, for the white Aryan race, whom they see as God's master race or chosen people.

KKK Costume
A white, sharply pointed hat that includes a full-faced cloth mask with eye holes.
Consists of: a floor-length, solid-white robe (often decorated with their signature insignia on the left side)
The word Ku Klux Klan probably comes from the Greek word kyklos (κύκλος) which means circle, suggesting a circle or band of brothers.
It was designed deliberately both to disguise its wearer's identity and to give the wearer an intimidating appearance.
KKK Salute
The Klan salute dates back to 1915 and possibly back to the original Klan. The Klan copied it from the ancient Roman salute.
known as the "glory suit" by Klansmen
Given specifically with the left hand. The palm is turned up slightly and the fingers are spread slightly apart.
When giving the salute a Klansman may say, "KIGY", or, "Klansman I Greet You.
The first Klan was founded in 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee, by six veterans of the Confederate Army. In 1870 and 1871, the federal government passed the Force Acts. In 1874 and later, newly organized and openly active paramilitary organizations, such as the White League and the Red Shirts, started a fresh round of violence aimed at suppressing blacks' voting.
•The KKK was formed by members opposing the Civil Rights Movement and desegregation, especially in the 1950s and 1960s.
In 1915, the second Klan was founded in Atlanta, Georgia. Starting in 1921, it adopted a modern business system of recruiting (which paid most of the initiation fee and costume charges as commissions to the organizers) and grew rapidly nationwide at a time of prosperity.
Current developments (70s-present)
Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest became Grand Wizard, claiming to be the Klan's national leader.
•Today, researchers estimate that there may be 150 Klan chapters with upwards of 5,000 members nationwide. Many sources classify the Klan as a "subversive or terrorist"
The movie The Birth of a Nation played a huge rol on reviving the KKK.
