PURIFICATION :
-
Metal that have been extracted from their ores

are normally not pure and contain impuruties
which need to be removed .
-This metal can be purified by
electrolysis .
FIGURE OF PURIFICATION
WHAT HAD HAPPENED
???
ANODE :
-During the electrolysis ,
impure metal
at anode will
donate
electrons and
dissolve
into the electrolyte as
metal

ions.

METAL METAL ION + ELECTRON
CATHODE
-This metal ions can
receive

electrons
and form
pure metal
at the cathode.
METAL ION + ELECTRON METAL
CONCLUSION
CATHODE :
-> The

size of the pure metal at the cathode become

larger

due to deposition of pure metal

.
The

mass

of
pure metal

increases.
ANODE :
-> The
size of impure metal become smaller
and
impurities will settle at the

bottom of the container
. The
mass
of the impure metal plate
decreases .
