hood by genesis tramaine & ryann holmes Started in 2009 bklyn boihood is a collective that creates visibility and builds community within masculine of center* bois, lesbians, queers, trans-identified, studs, doms, butches and AGs of color through online media, events, workshops and collaborative projects. the 'hood' is a place
where we gather, live,
survive, an intimate home-space as people of color. the hood is not the same place as "the ghetto"--though people (outsiders) tend to equate the two. the 'hood' is home. for us. that is both geographical/physical & mental/spiritual. 'bois'--We are transmen, studs, doms, butches, tomboys, queens, Ags—all self-identified bois and queers of color striving for visibility, self-affirmation using our stories, journeys and talents. + > mo

> sebastian the 2010-2011 bklyn boihood calendar was a response to the limited & skewed representation of bois of color in the media. it featured local artists, models and photographers--all queer artists of color. capturing the spirit of empowerment and self-affirmation of the calendar became the catalyst for the
growth of the collective. the calendar wrap party is a little bit of a legend. the amount of love and affirmation for the value of our bodies was at the center. 2011 - the collective had grown and so had the need to create community off the dance floor. 2013 CALENDAR SHOOT begun speaking publicly about why our bodies and visions and conversations matter.
