Rounding off

Question: Round off 758 216 to the nearest Thousand.

Solution : 1) Underline the number that shows thousand and circle the number

on the right.

Example -

758 216

Place value is thousand.

2) If the circled number is greater than 5, add 1 to the lined number and replace all the digits to the right of the lined number with zeros. If the circled number is less than 5, don't add any number. Just retain the number and replace all the digits to the right of lined number with zeros.

3) Tips : If the digit to the right of the one to be rounded off is

(i) Less than 5, then retain the digit to be rounded off and replace all the

digits to its right with zeros.

(ii) 5 or greater than 5, then add 1 to be rounded off and replace all the

digts to its right with zeros.

Example: Find the sum of 735 and 96.

Convert two weeks to days.

Use multiplication.

Carry out the plan

85 x 14 = 1 190

Therefore, the bookshop sells 1 190 books in two weeks.

1 week = 7 days
