In order to ensure success in this CourseSites unit, it is important to understand the nature of 21st Century students and how they relate to 21st century teaching and learning. The following are my core beliefs about students and what qualities they must possess in order to succeed in this unit:

The 21st century student is able independently maneuver through an online course and use resources to his/her advantage. Examples: watching assigned videos as needed, using online search engines to further understand a topic, concept as needed.

iNACOL Standard B:
The online teacher understands and is able to use a range of technologies, both existing and emerging, that effectively support student learning and engagement in the online environment.

The 21st century student must be able to effectively engage in online discussion boards and use the gathered information to gain a greater understanding of a concept.

iNACOL Standard C:
The online teacher plans, designs and incorporates strategies to encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation and collaboration in the online environment.

The 21st century student must effectively communicate with classmates and use collaborative time to learn from others' perspectives.

iNACOL Standard H:
The online teacher develops and delivers assessments, projects and assignments that meet standards-based learning goals and assesses learning progress by measuring student achievement of learning goals.
