CHAPTER 15: Air masses and fronts What two main characteristics are used to classify air masses? Temp. and humidity are characteristics that scientist used to classify air masses. What is a front? Name and describe 4 types of fronts. A front is what forms when 2 air masses meet. The four types of fronts include warm fronts, cold fronts, occluded frotnts, and stationary fronts. What is a cyclone? What weather does it bring? A cyclone is a swirling center of low air pressure. It blows cooler air into the low pressure area. Why do maritime polar air masses have more affect on the West coast than the East? These masses have cool humid air that brings fog, rain, and cool temp. Classify the four major types of air masses according to whether they are dry or humid. maritine tropical and continental tropical are dry temperatures and continetental and maritime polars are humid temp.s Alex B
