baritone- is a type of classical male singing voice whose vocal range lies between the bass and the tenor voice types. It is the most common male voice.
compromised-an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.
agony-extreme physical or mental suffering
figurative language-page 9 "she didn't want to change to fit into a melting pot; she wanted to be accepted for who she was. Which means she wanted to be liked for who she actually was.

summary: chapter 3 is mainly about wes's mother was not allowing wes to go to the bronx public school like his mother, and he goes to a private school split into two sections. It wasn't a very nice school.
