Congress had to vote to decide who was going to be President
won and became the third president at age 57
sent Lewis and Clark on their expedition
the first President to start an American University
bought almost all the central States in the United States
always carried a pencil and a notebook to jot down ideas
had slaves but was very nice to them and wanted all people to be nice to laborers
wanted everyone to have freedom
had two grizzly bears cubs
taught a mocking bird to sing while playing violin
was one of the first people to eat and grow a tomato
served two terms from 1802-1809
Life after Presidency
went back to Virginia plantation home, Monticello
happy to be free from being President
spent a lot of time learning about science and natural history
died July 4, 1826 at age 83
memorial in Washington DC a symbol of liberty
