Transcript of Mental Health, Stress and You...

Dealing With Stress...
One of the biggest issues affecting young people...

20% (35 students) may experience a mental health issue in any given year

10% (17 students) have a clinically diagnosable mental health issue

Focusing on stress and how to manage it
Notices
Late detentions on Thursday - CG01 - still too many people in there!
After school revision programmes
should
be up and running after half-term
On-going conversations about key students and progress
On-going parents meetings with me about progress and concerns
A lot of subjects are entering coursework/controlled assessment phases - be aware and stay on top of your work load
Study Skills - you must bring revision material you need to make notes about - the session is focused on making revision cards so you need material to use!
It is a long way to May...
Stress is going to be a constant factor

Staff are well aware of it - but a big part of this is about you being self-aware enough to deal with it

A lot is going to happen, some of it we can predict, some we can't - but we all need to find ways to manage it
Mental Health, Stress and You...
Stress...
Depression
Anxiety
Anger
Frustration
Over-eating
Under-eating
Insomnia
Sleeping too much
Sense that life is overwhelming
Can't focus
Forgetfulness
decreased contact with family and friends
sense of loneliness
avoiding others and others avoid you because you’re cranky
failing to set aside times for relaxation through activities such as hobbies, music, art or reading
Get organised: to do lists, revision timetables, planners, know your deadlines, tidy room/work space

Talk to someone you trust - and someone you know can help

Take time out to relax - THE GYM, sports, hobbies, films...

Realise you can't do everything all at once - and that there are things in your life you can't control!

Know what you are trying to achieve

Remember that this is a phase of life - it will come to an end!
Heavenly Father, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart.
My soul is like a turbulent sea. I can't seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly.
Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you've laid out for me.
I trust your Love God, and know that you will heal this stress.
Just as the sun rises each day against the dark of night.
Please bring me clarity with the light of God.
In your name I pray, Amen
