Hollywood's negative impact on society
BY: Camry Avery

"what are you gonna do ? be hungry every single day to make other people happy ? that's just dumb." -Jennifer Lawrence
Hollywood has such a negative impact on adolecent girls ruining their self esteem. The stress of having to look a certain way or weigh a certain amount should not be forced on young girls but hollywood has done just that. As a result of adolecents worrying about their body image many have took on eating disorders.
The need for change is significant. Those who suffer from eating disorders also suffer from heart failure, organ failure, malnutrition, and suicide. Eating disorders have the highest morality rate of any mental disorder. Hollywood plays a major role in this just because its opinion is so important.
Infact, there are many things we could do , as a society, to help change the views of these adolecents. In hollywood and all around the world "the perfect weight" should be less addressed or not even addressed at all. These girls should understand that hollywoods opinion is only ONE and there are MANY other different views in the world. Dear Hollywood, a "perfect weight or size" is not the only thing that makes us beautiful !
In short, hollywood corrupts and adolecents self esteem. also, hollywood believes one size is beautiful. If you aren't the "perfect size" you aren't good enough.
Call To Action
Studies suggest that eating disorders among adolescent girls has increased rapidly over the last 50 years. Today they are prone to concerns about weight, shape, size, and body due to things they've seen in the media. 5% of adolecent girls meet the criteria for bulimia nervosa. They are dealing with eating disorders because they're to concerened with hollywood's perfect weight and not a healthy weight.
It does not take alot to put in effort to try and help change society's view ,but before we can help try to change societys view we have to change ours and embrace the fact that others are different and we all won't look the same. Take on that we are all beautiful no matter what shape or size we are.
Hollywoods Negative impact on society cantaminates not only adolecent selfesteem but many other indivisuals. Hollywood shouldn't define ones self-esteem. Being a healthy weight is more important than being a perfect weight.
"I'd rather look chubby on screen and like a person in real life" - Jennifer Lawrence.
It's perfectly okay not to look like the rest of hollywood!!
