The Implied Reader Wolfgang Iser Belongs to both the text response and reader response theories. the text contains strategies and instructions that enable the reader to become implied and therefore understand what the text is trying to communicate. The reader can be applied in both a synchronic and diachronic framework Synchronic - the study of phenomena without reference to historical context Diachronic - concerned with phenomena as they change through time Communication Theory relient on the assumption that the sender (author) and a reciever (reader) sharing the same linguistic and cultural code. This means... It is assumed that the author and reader share similar discourses and cultural codes, so that the reader can become the implied by following the instructions hidden in the text Concretize When actively reading, the reader will fill the gaps and blanks of the text according to the encoded instructions. This is to CONCRETIZE, or to create consistency which leads to... MEANING prestructing of text allows for the production of meaning
