Hip Hop Dancer on Ellen (in 2009) History of Hip Hop Dance Breaking: Breaking was created in South Bronx,New York during the early 1970's (probably 1970-1975). Breaking is the first hip hop dance move to be created.A man named Afrika Bambaataa identified it as 1 of the 5 pillers of hip hop (at that time). Hip Hop has many dance moves such as popping,breaking and locking,which were all made in the 1970's ( all in the U.S.A.).Hip Hop Dance has also influenced another dance style called jazz-funk. Hip hop dance is performed indoors and outdoors. It was commercialized in movies mostly during the 1990's and 2000's.Hip hop dance has also inspired turfing,krumping and jerkin'. Hip Hop dancing is usually freestyle. Props and Costumes By:Rifah Locking Locking:Locking was originally called Campbellocking,it was created in 1969 in Los Angeles,California by a man named Don "Campbellock" Campbell. Locking was made even more popular by Don's dance group "The Lockers". Popping: Popping was created in Fresno,California in the 1970's. It was made popular by a man named Samuel "Boogaloo Sam" Soloman and his dance crew "Electric Boogaloos". Popping Tops: Girls: Tank tops and mini t-shirts, oversized hoodies/sweaters
Boys: Loose t-shirts,oversized hoodies/sweaters Pants: Baggy pants/baggy jeans or sweatpants Shoes: Worn shoes (not brand new) Accessories: Wristbands,chains,earings No props are required in hip hop dance Props:
