Transcript of VFX Workflow

Script
The script is the master document for a drama production.

The script describes the dramatic tone of the production.

From the script comes all other documentation.
The Visual Effects Workflow
Artists and Illustrators read the script and start to create a visual style.
From the script comes the storyboard, a pictographic description of the Director's vision.

The storyboard will include any visual effect sequences.
Concept Art
Animatic
A basic animation detailing how major elements move within the frame. Provides the first estimates of timing and shot lengths.

Allows the FX team to estimate complexities, costing and resources.
The 2D department concept artists continue to develop technical drawings for the major film assets.

The most important of these technical drawings are turnarounds - a 360 view of the object.
This serves as the start point for all visual artists on the production.
