Transcript of Dante's Inferno

First Circle:Limbo
The first circle is filled with virtuous non-Christians and unbaptized pagans who are sentenced to a eternity in an inferior heaven.They are to wander endlessly in restless existence between the ruins of a temple.
Second Circle: Lust
For those who were overcome by lust, they are blown back and forth by strong winds, preventing them from finding peace and rest.
Third Circle: Gluttony
Souls who are gluttonous are forced to lie in vile slush that is produced by never ending icy rain.
Fourth Circle:Greed
The greedy souls are divided into two groups: those who hoarded their possessions and those who spent it lavishly. They spent their time fighting each other with weights as weapons.
Fifth Circle: Anger
The wrathful are forced to fight one another for an eternity on the surface of the river Styx.
Sixth Circle: Heresy
Heretics are trapped for an eternity in a flaming tomb.
Seventh Circle:Violence
The Seventh Circle is divided into three rings.
Inner Ring
Those who were violent against God or nature reside in the inner circle of the Seventh Circle of Hell, a desert of flaming sand and fiery flakes raining from the sky.
Middle Ring
The suicidal are transformed into trees and bushes which are fed on by harpies.
Outer Ring
The murders and tyrants are put into a river made of boiling blood and fire.
Together, the three rings of the Seventh Circle punish those who were violent.
Eighth Circle: Fraud
The eighth circle is divided into ten Bolgia (stone ditches).
The Panderers and Seducers walk in opposite directions while being whipped by demons.
1st Bolgia
2nd Bolgia
Flatterers who exploited others are immersed in human excrement.
3rd Bolgia
Those who had committed simony are placed headfirst in a rock while their soles on their feet are liked by fire.
4th Bolgia
Sorcerers and false prophets are punished by having their heads twisted backwards.
5th Bolgia
Barrators, or people who used politics to bring their status up in politics, are put into a boiling lake.
6th Bolgia
Hypocrites are forced to wear lead cloaks.
7th Bolgia
Thieves are subjected to the continuous biting of snakes and lizards.
8th Bolgia
Fraudulent Counselors are encased in flames.
9th Bolgia
The Sowers of Discord have their bodies hacked apart continuously by a sword-wielding demon.
10th Bolgia
Falsifiers like counterfeits, perjurers, and imposters are afflicted with different types of diseases.
9th Circle: Treachery
The ninth circle is divided into four rings.
Traitors to their own family are immersed in ice up to their faces.
Traitors to their own country are lying face up in ice.
Traitors to guests are encased in ice except for their face.
Traitors to their own lords or benefactors are completely encased in ice.
