Computer: electronic device for storing and processing data. Typically data is stored in binary code.
Data: Facts and stats collected
together for reference or analysis
Information: facts provided or learned about something or someone
Info Processing Cycle: events in processing info which includes input, processing, storage, and output
Hardware: physical, touchable, material parts of a computer
Input: when information is entered into a computer using devices
Input Devices: microphones, keyboards, mouse, touch pads, touch screens, extc.
Output: when information is transmitted in any form that transfers said information to users
Output Devices: monitors, speakers, printers, extc.
Storage: any medium that saves data generated or transmitted by/through a computer
Storage Devices: Flash drives, floppy disks, CDs, ROM, RAM, extc.
Cloud Storage: a model of data storage where the digital data is stored in logical pools, the physical storage spans across multiple servers (and often locations), and the physical environment is typically owned and managed by a hosting company.
Central Processing Unit:the part of a computer in which operations are controlled and executed. AKA the CPU
Processing: an instance of a computer program that is being executed. It contains the program code and its current activity.
microprocessor: an integrated
circuit that contains all the functions of a central processing unit of a computer.
Computer Memory: The amount of memory the computer comes with.
Example: iPhone 16G or 32G
Random Access Memory: primarily used as main memory in personal computers, workstations, and
servers. Random-access memory (RAM /ræm/) is a form of computer data storage.
Cache Memory: a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place
Motherboard: a printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer or other device, with connectors into which other circuit boards can be slotted
Communication Device: is piece of equipment or hardware designed to move information or data from one place to another, in other words, allowing one computer device to communicate with another.
Application Software:computer program with an interface, enabling people to use the computer as a tool to accomplish a specific task. word processing, spreadsheet, and communications software are all examples
system Software:computer software designed to operate and control the computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software. System software can be separated into two different categories, operating systems and utility software.
Desktop Computer:personal computer in a form intended for regular use at a single location desk/table due to its size and power requirements, as opposed to a laptop whose rechargeable battery and compact dimensions allow it to be regularly carried and used in different locations.
Laptop: portable computer that/s name derives from the notion that it could fit on your lap.
Tablet: A computer that accepts input directly on an LCD screen rather than a keyboard
Chromebooks:a laptop running Chrome OS as its operating system. The devices are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and data residing "in the cloud". A Chromebook is an example of a thin client.
