Math PBL project SWINE FLU at the tec!! What is Swine Flu??!
Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by the influenza virus type A, which causes outbreaks of influenza among animals. These viruses can spread among pigs throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur in the final months of autumn and winter, as well as outbreaks in humans. The current outbreak of swine influenza virus to be a hybrid that has components pig, human and avian influenza, so it can meet the high risk of influenza and the ease of humans to spread from person to person. Furthermore, as a new virus is not known how to behave.
Problem
In 2009 an epidemic of swine flu began to spread in Mexico, causing many schools to close so the virus wouldn’t leave more victims. In the Tecnológico de Monterrey campus Guadalajara the principal said that if more than 40 students had the virus by April the school would close indefinitely .
Is the school going to be closed by April?
What is the rate of change of the illness?
dE/dT=kE
dE/dt shows the rate of change of the illness
E= number of students infected
K= how is the illness increasing
T= time
Date: APRIL 2010

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING
AT THE TEC THERE IS A VIRUS
THAT IS INFECTING
THE STUDENTS... Now we will use
derivatives to know
number of students
infected in the next
months.
Now we will substitute the values in the equation.
So we will use
integrals to find
the rate of change
using the next operation
Correct!
we were right
in 2009 clases in all
schools were suspended
for two weeks to control
