The sun is a star at the centre of our solar system. The solar system is made up of planets, dwarf planets, asteroids and comets that orbit the sun. Our solar system is part of a galaxy. Galaxies contain billions of stars, and the distances involved are huge. The universe contains at least one billion galaxies. In 1976, two Viking landers touched down on Mars Scientists have discovered other planets orbiting other stars.
There are so many telescopes to find out about how a planet looks like, but scientists can also find out about the gases in the planet's atmosphere. Some of the electromagnetic radiation that we use for communication travels out into space and could be detected by

Our Sun is a star. It seems much bigger than other stars in the sky because it’s much closer to Earth. Stars form immense groups called galaxies. A galaxy can contain many millions of stars, held together by the force of gravity.

Why do YOU think we survive on this planet? They searched for chemical changes, in the soil that may have
come from living organisms. There was no evidence found! Scientists use space probes to photograph planets and observe them in detail. These probes have photographed channels of flowing water on Mars in the past. Rovers are used to take close up photographs to observe soil and rocks.
One of the famous rovers is the Mars Rover.
Another is Spirit which investigated the surface of Mars over 6 years and covered 12 miles. The Earth has a lot of oxygen, in its atmosphere, because plants release oxygen during photosynthesis. If oxygen is detected in the atmosphere of another planet, it may be evidence that life MAY exist on that planet. SETI:
