An
adaptation
is a way an animal
has changed in its environment
that allows it to survive.
Animal Adaptations
Physical
Adaptations

Behavioral Adaptations
these are things that animals
do
(their behavior)
that help them survive.

Examples:
Hibernation
&
Migration
Last but not least....
These are
special characteristics about an animal's body
that help it survive.
Camouflage
is a
physical characteristic
that helps an
animal blend into its environment
So what exactly does that mean?
Let's find out!
A gecko uses its camouflaged covering
to hide from its
prey AND predators
.
Zebras use their camouflaged covering
to hide from their
predators.
Special Body Parts
Some animals' body parts help them to
survive
by meeting their basic needs.
What sorts of environments
meet the needs of these animals?
In order for an animal
to meet all of its needs
in its environment,
animals have ADAPTED.
What physical adaptations do you notice about these birds that help them to survive?
We already know polar bears use camouflage. What other adaptations do polar bears have to help them survive

long, cold winters in the tundra?
Environment
An environment is
everything around an animal
.
Can you name any physical adaptations?
Giraffes have long necks to reach the tops of tall trees for food
Hibernation
is a long, deep sleep an animal takes when it is unable to survive the long, cold winter.
Migration
is when some animals fly to another climate to survive the long, cold winter.
Now it's time to play....
