The Odyssey VS. O Brother, Where Art Thou? Olivia Clark Events Epic Journey The Hero A Helper/Mentor The Resurrection Everett and Odysseus Penelope (Odysseus' wife) & Penny (Everett's wife) Characters Both are being courted by Suitor(s)
Both are reluctant to accept their husbands' return Ulysses, Pete, and Delmar dress as the KKK to escape with Tommy
Odysseus and his crew hide under the sheep to escape the Cyclops’ lair

Big Dan is almost stabbed in the eye

Ulysses dressed as a hobo to see his wife
Odysseus dressed as a beggar to see his wife Odysseus, Favorite of Zeus Odysseus was greatly helped by Athena Odysseus is freed from Calypso's island and with the Phaecians' help returns home Everett's full name is Ulysses Everett McGill Odysseus is the Roman Version of Ulysses Everett was confined in a prison Odysseus was held captive on Calypso's island Everett is on a journey to get back home to his family Odysseus is on a quest to return home to his family Everett disguises himself in order to win his wife back Odysseus is disguised so he can get his home back Odysseus is religious Everett doesn't believe in any gods Both are described as skilled tricksters Everett, with how he tricked his friends into escaping for a treasure, and Odysseus, with his false tales Odysseus has a close and loving relationship with his wife Everett and his wife do not have a close relationship, shown with how she continuously rejects him When Odysseys lied to his men it was for their own benefit or to keep them safe Everett lied to Pete and Delmar for selfish reasons Big Dan Teague & The Cyclops Both have only one eye
Both use club-like sticks to harm the hero and his men Sheriff Cooley (The Warden) & Poseidon Both do everything they can to hinder the hero and attempt to kill him Pete and Demlar are baptized and feel like they are leaving their old life behind Odysseus' men eat lotus flowers and forget about their old life Everett and his friends come across women singing on rocks and are seduced by them Odysseus encounters Sirens also singing on rocks, but does not fall prey to them Everett and Odysseus both come across blind prophets who tell of their upcoming adventure Everett, leader of the Saggy Bottom Boys The Call After the fall of Troy, Odysseus wishes to return home and begins his journey back While in prison, Everett recieves a letter from his wife saying that she is going to remarry, so he escapes and tries to hurry home The Trials Odysseus encounters

Big Dan Teague Everett had the help of his friends Pete and Delmar Travel to Supernatural World Odysseus goes to the realm of Hades Everett, Pete, and Delmar find themselves at a Ku Klux Klan meeting The Abyss Odysseus has given up hope and cries on the shore of Calypso's island Everett, Pete, and Delmar are caught and are about to be hung at an old cabin. They believe it is the end for them Everett prays to God for help, a flood suddenly saves them, and Everett returns to Penny Everett and Delmar come across Big Dan Teague, who hits them with a tree branch and kills the toad, which is still thought to be Pete Odysseus and his men meet the Cyclops, who wields a club and kills some of them Everett escapes from jail Odysseus escapes from Calypso's island Delmar thinks Pete has been turned into a toad when he finds one in his place with Pete is no where to be found When they met Circe, some of Odysseus' men were turned into swine As Everett and his friends are driving away from the police with him, George Nelson kills a cow. He is eventually hung for his crimes. Odysseus’ crew killed Helios’ cows, and were killed by Helios
