The game of baseball! by: Christian Crahan The positions of baseball The positions of baseball are catcher, pitcher, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, left fielder, center fielder, and right fielder. The rules of baseball can be very complex for some people so I am going to try to explain the game in the least complicated way that I can. You must have nine players on the field in an inning, no more no less. The pitcher throws the baseball to the catcher and the batter tries to hit the ball. If the batter gets three strikes than he is out but if the pitcher throws four balls to the batter than the batter gets a free walk to first base. The fielders' jobs are to catch the ball and get the batter out. If the ball is hit on the ground than the fielder must throw the ball to the base in order to get the batter out. If the ball is hit in the air and a fielder catches it than the batter is out. the batters must run all the bases in order to score. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. The rules of baseball There are many rules of baseball but I am only going to tell you about three of them so that we don't run out of time. The first rule that I am going to tell you about is the interference rule. The interference rule is if the ball is hit to a fielder and the runner contacts the fielder as he is making a play, the umpire will call interference and the runner will be automatically out.The second rule is the balk rule. Sometimes a pitcher may attempt to pick of the runner by throwing to first base. The balk rule is if the pitcher breaks an imaginary 45-degree line between first and home with his foot by stepping closer to home plate, he must throw to home plate. if he does not a balk will be called. the last rule I am going to tell you about is the designated hitter rule. the rule is the DH[designated hitter] can only bat for the pitcher and nobody else. Common errors made In baseball not every play is perfect and errors are made. Even in the MLB(major league baseball) errors are made. One common error made is bobbling the baseball. This error is very important not to make because if you bobble the ball you have less time to throw the ball to the base and the batter is most likely to be safe. Another common error that is made is when a runner hits the ball into the out field doesn't look to see were the ball lands, if it inst already caught, and advances to an extra base and they are thrown out. Trophies received in baseball Three types of trophies that are received in baseball are the MVP(most valuable player) award, the world championship trophy, and the silver slugger award. Team with most world series wins The baseball team with the most world series wins is the New York Yankees with 27 world series wins.
