Organization Structure
-USA Diving, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as the sport’s national governing body.
-Headquartered in Indianapolis, USA Diving offers a variety of programs for divers of all ages and skill levels.
-It is a network of people working together to conduct, promote and participate in the United States’ most successful summer Olympic sport.

PERIOD 1!!!!!!!
-a springboard that is 4.8 meters long and half a meter wide
-a platform that is at least six meters high and two meters wide. (3 meters wide for synchronized diving)
-Diving became popular in Sweden and Germany in the 18th & 19th centuries.
-The sport was primarily practiced by gymnasts who started performing tumbling routines into the water.
-Diving was included in the Olympics for the 1st time at the 1904 Games in St Louis
-The springboard and platform events have been included since the 1908 Olympic Games in London.
-The diving program has been relatively stable since the 1928 Games in Amsterdam: men and women take part in 10-meter high-dive and 3-meter springboard events.
-In 2000, the Sydney Games witnessed the entrance of synchronized diving on both the springboard and the platform.
-Diving, along with swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo, is one of the four disciplines governed by the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA).
**Olympic diving has four events for men & women:
- 10 meter platform
- 3 meter springboard
- synchronized diving 10 meter platform
- synchronized diving 3 meter springboard

-Styles of diving include front, back, reverse, inward, twist and armstand, with points awarded according to technique and grace.
-Each of the seven judges score dives out of 10 and the athlete with the highest total is the winner.
Platform Diving:
•Men must complete six dives.
•Women must complete five dives.
•All dives must be competed from the 10-meter platform.
