The art of mixed-age Storytimes
What is a mixed-age storytime?
A storytime that combines major stages of development, commonly lumped into "baby," "toddler," or "preshool." Example, Ages birth-5 (baby+toddler+preschool).

C- Themes can help you plan, but you have to love the material
L- Themes are restrictive, but extending on books is always preferred.
M- Themes can help introduce different ideas and get families excited

How do you pick your books?
Is There an order to how you read them?
B- Be flexible and try for developmentally appropriate.
C- Have a range of books and don't be afraid to stop reading.
L- Try to find those perfect books that can be presented in different ways and on different levels.
M-Read the "oldest" book first, but make it engaging for kids and adults.
How to engage adults
B- You depend on the adults to engage the kids when an activity or book is above or below a child's interest level. Let them know they're important and they set the example.
C-You need the adults to BRING the kids. Tell them about the "why" behind what we do and offer suggestions for home.
L-Consider books and activities that have proven popular with the adults, and/or consider limiting attendance in some way.
M-Have some ground rules, use a child's name, and give stink eyes when appropriate.
