Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning is a character that often taunts Bernard and degrades him in the eyes of society
Bernard's furious reaction to Henry Foster talking about Lenina as if she was meat foreshadows that he is unhappy in this society and dislikes people looking down on him
Antecedent Action: Nine Years' War leads to economic collapse and creation of society Brave New World by Aldous Huxley Initial Incident Climax With the Director gone, Bernard's popularity skyrockets with the help of John who Bernard is a guardian for

He goes to live in a lighthouse to be away from the horrors of soma and to be part of nature
People come to visit him but he chases them away, they still return and many interviewers come to observe him Denouement John whips himself in shame because he was thinking of Lenina
Crowds come to view the Savage and it results in a mass orgy, Lenina is seen shedding tears for John
John hangs himself the next day, horrified of what he had done
This shows the dark side of society since it can influence you to do many things you did not mean to do Conflict Human vs Society Theme First impressions are not always accurate POV: Omniscient/Roving Camera In the novel, when John lands in civilized London, the first thing he says is "Oh brave new world, with such people in it." He quotes Shakespeare and imitates Miranda's amazement at this new world she has been put in. Bernard, however, knows that this statement is not at all true since he has come face to face with the monsters of their society and has witnessed all too many imperfections. John also comes to see the horrors of this society and realizes just how wrong he was about this world. He learns that he had only saw the surface of this society and later regrets ever thinking that this society was wonderful. This leads us to conclude that not all first impressions are accurate and we should always think things over and carefully observe before coming to an conclusion. References: "Brave New World."
