1995: they met at Stanford University and were both computer science grad students
1996: Larry and Sergey began working on a search engine which they called "BackRub"
"BackRub" operated on Stanford's servers for more than a year until it took up too much bandwidth to suit the university.
1997: they renamed "BackRub" to "Google", a play on the mathematical term "Googol". Larry and Sergey chose this name because it reflected their desire to organize an infinite amount of information on the internet. Google Grows and Expands Google's workplaces:

An office at 165 University avenue in Palo Alto. At this time, google had only eight employees!

Book Search This is a timeline of additional important events in Google's history and product development. Marketing Strategies Google's strategy for consumers is that they offer free services such as GMail, and give targeted advertisements based on what their users have searched.
Google profits from the the info collected from people and content ( movies, books, apps) purchased from the Play Store
They gather information about their users and provide it to third parties who create targeted advertisements for Google. These advertisements appear on the results page and correspond to what the user has searched for
Their strategy for Android is based on getting the largest market share. It is free for any manufacturer to put Android on their device, but they must comply with Google's standards to receive access to their services ie. the Play Store, GMail
